Baseball Picks: New York Yankees Favored vs. Boston Red Sox on Thursday Night on MLB Network

Baseball Betting:  The New York Yankees are favored at home on Thursday night as they host the Boston Red Sox. This game that can be seen on MLB Network is the finale of a three-game series between the two long-time rivals.  The Yankees are still in the playoff race in the American League while the defending champion Red Sox are out of it.  Here is a look at the game and baseball picks.

Boston Red Sox Considering 6-Man Rotation

This season is lost for the Boston Red Sox so they want to look at as many players as possible going into next season. One way to do that is to go from a five-man pitching rotation to a six-man rotation.  While that sounds interesting, the Red Sox don’t have any real great starters among the six pitchers. They are considering Brandon Workman as the sixth starter.  “There’s some talk, because we go into a stretch now, it’s about 18 days consecutively, we may look at going to a six-man rotation just to build in an added day of rest,” manager John Farrell said. “How we then factor in the off day that’s coming after that, we can adjust again and go back for a turn through and not get too far removed from a previous start. There’s quite a bit of possibility we’d go to a six-man rotation.”

The projected starter for Thursday would be Allen Webster and he has been awful of late for Boston. He is now 3-3 on the season with a 6.69 ERA.

New York Yankees Pitching

It should be Chris Capuano going for the Yankees on Thursday. He has been solid for the Yankees since they put him in the rotation. His overall numbers are just 2-3 with a 4.24 ERA but he usually goes about 6 innings and gives the team a chance to win.

Series Notes

The Yankees had won six of the last ten before this series started with three of the last four going over. The teams had split their last ten in New York with six of the last eight going under.
