Baseball Predictions: Pitching Duel Expected on Monday on ESPN as the Philadelphia Phillies visit the Atlanta Braves

Baseball Betting:  It should be a pitching duel on Monday afternoon as the Philadelphia Phillies visit the Atlanta Braves.  The Phillies are expected to go with Cole Hamels who has an ERA of 2.59 this season while the Braves should be going with Julio Teheran who has an ERA of 2.90.  Let’s look at this Labor Day contest that will be shown on ESPN and baseball predictions.

Probable Pitchers – Hamels vs. Teheran

It has been a really good season for Cole Hamels even though his overall record is just 7-6. He has an ERA of 2.59 this season and if the Phillies had a better offense he would have 10 wins or more. He is 1-0 in his last three starts with a 4.26 ERA. He has had a lot of success in his career against the Braves with a 15-8 record and a 3.34 ERA.

Julio Teheran has a 13-9 record this season with a 2.90 ERA. He gave up just one run on three hits last time out in 6.1 innings against the Mets.  Teheran has gone six innings or more in each of his last three starts and he has won each game.

Team Notes

The Phillies are averaging 3.9 runs per game and allowing 3.9 runs per contest.  The team should be around .500 but they don’t play good defense, they are poorly managed and they don’t hit in the clutch so they are a team out of the playoff race.  The Braves are actually worse on offense as they average under 3.8 runs per game but they are much better in team ERA at 3.3 runs allowed per contest. The Braves can’t afford to lose games like this to weak teams like the Phillies as Atlanta is battling for a Wild Card spot in the National League.

Series Notes

The Atlanta Braves have won six of the last ten in this series with three of the last five going under. The teams have split their last ten in Atlanta with six of the last eight going over.

Baseball Predictions

We’ll look for Hamels and Teheran to pitch well and for this game to go under on Monday.
