Grappling Odds: Metamoris 5

The Metamoris 5 no-gi submission grappling event scheduled for November 22nd in Long Beach already has odds posted at BETDSI.  The event has gotten a lot of attention for the submission game and no-gi grappling with their no points format and ability to draw big names, the Metamoris cards have been as hit on the internet broadcast and internet PPV.

This coming event is no different, as MMA legends Kazushi Sakuraba (+279) and  Renzo Gracie (+270) cross paths in the main event. The Draw (-150) is the favored and most likely outcome of the match as far as the books are concerned.  Though both names resonate and both are true MMA legends, both men are in their mid 40s now, so it is hard to see them going at it each other with all guns blazing, but the match has it’s nostalgia value.

Despite an impressive performance at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night 54 event where he manhandled Tarec Saffiedine, UFC star Rory MacDonald is a (+802) underdog in his bout against J.T. Torres, who returns at (-250).  In this match, Torres finishing the fight is the likely outcome, as he is a submission ace who thrives in this game.  If you are a fan of MacDonald, he is (+800) because he is unlikely to finish the fight, but his physical strength may allow him to get a draw out of the contest, and that returns a decent (+249).

Yuri Simoes (+400) faces Rafael Lovato Jr (+230) in a match of two highly decorated grapplers that is most likely to finish in a  draw (-175).  Garry Tonon (+222) and Zak Maxwell (+434) face off in a match that can be described the same way as Simoes-Lovata.  The draw returns at (-166) for that one.

The history of Metamoris is filled with a lot of draws, and 3 of the 5 fights offered this coming event are most likely to come in as draws.  One potential strategy is to bet the draws, even if you have to lay a juice out on some of them.

Vinny Magalhaes is favored to finish  (-253) Kevin Casey, who comes back at a whopping (+963) if he pulls f the submission win, and the draw is a bet-able at (+201).   Magalhaes fought to a draw with Keenan Cornelius at the Metamoris 4 event, but he has a little bit more of a favorable match-up going into this one.
