NFL Picks: Broncos Host Chargers on Thursday Night

NFL Matchups: The San Diego Chargers are a team that must be taken seriously both on the field and at the betting window thanks to second year head coach Mike McCoy.  McCoy has proven to be a significant upgrade over previous head coach Norv Turner and has transformed the Chargers into a bona fide AFC title contender that will face their toughest assignment yet on the season Thursday night.

The Broncos will host the Chargers at Sports Authority Field with coverage on CBS starting at 8:25 PM ET.  This is a renewal of a divisional rivalry that dates all the way back to the founding of the American Football League in 1960.  Denver opened as a six point favorite with a total of 50.

Broncos Bust Out Super Statement

Denver is 5-1 straight up, 3-3 against the spread, and 4-2 over the total after their 42-17 home payout over San Francisco on Sunday night.  The Broncos of course rank first for scoring offense but it is their sixth ranked defense that has impressed and given them a championship look.

Real McCoys

San Diego is 5-2 both SU and ATS and 3-4 under the total.  Their defense ranks fifth best in the NFL and the offense ninth for scoring.  San Diego trails Denver by half a game in the AFC West.

Matchup and Pick

Denver has had a decent betting value at home with 11 payouts in their last 20 home games.  Denver has gone under the total in four out of their last seven home games. San Diego has covered the spread in 11 out of their last 16 road games with nine out of their last 12 away games going under the total.

Denver has struggled to maintain good betting value with San Diego in this head to head series.  The Broncos have come away with the money in just five out of their last 17 games against San Diego with six out of the last 10 meetings between the Chargers and Broncos going under the total.  It has been even worse at home for the Broncos as they have paid out in just one out of their last 11 home games with the Chargers with the last two meetings at Denver in this head to head series going under the total.  We’ll call for San Diego and under the total.
