2015 World Series Odds: Washington Nationals Are the Early Favorites

The Nationals begin the season as World Series favorites.

Baseball Odds: The Washington Nationals are now the favorites to win the 2015 World Series after they added Max Scherzer. They have moved past the Los Angeles Dodgers in the latest World Series odds. The Nationals are listed with odds of 6-1 to win the World Series while the Dodgers are at 8-1. All of the other teams are listed at double-digits.

Nationals Top Rotation

The Washington Nationals already had one of the best starting rotations in the league with Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister. Now they add former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer to this group. If they don’t trade anyone, and there are now rumors that Strasburg is on the trading block, the Nats will have the best starting five in the league. And they also have Tanner Roark who had a good season a year ago as a sixth starter. Without Scherzer, the rotation last season led the league in ERA at 3.03 with 1,288 strikeouts. Scherzer is 91-50 in his career with a 3.58 ERA in 207 career games. He was 18-5 last season with a 3.15 ERA and 252 strikeouts.

Star Studded Rotations Guarantee Nothing

The Nationals had the best record in the National League last season at 96-66 with a great starting rotation but they were beaten in the playoffs by the San Francisco Giants. The same thing happened in 2011 with the Philadelphia Phillies as they won 102 games in the regular season with a rotation of Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt but they lost in the Division Series. It happened to the Detroit Tigers in each of the past two years as in 2013 they had a rotation of Scherzer, Justin Verlander, Anibal Sanchez and Doug Fister while last year they had David Price in that group instead of Fister and in neither season did they win the World Series.
