2017 NASCAR Xfinity Lilly Diabetes 250 Preview

Lilly Diabetes 250

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will speed in to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Lilly Diabetes 250 this weekend. There is a good chance that we could see the same driver make a trip to Victory Lane for the second week in a row. That is because Kyle Busch finished first in the Xfinity Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last week and has dominated at this track in the past. Busch has won three of the last four Xfinity Series races at Indianapolis and each of the last two Cup Series races here. There is no doubt he will once again be the sports betting favorite to win the Lilly Diabetes 250 this Saturday afternoon.

Details

Event: Lilly Diabetes 250

Category: NASCAR Xfinity Series

Date: Saturday July 22, 2017

Location: Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Speedway, Indiana

Winning at Indianapolis is something that every NASCAR driver dreams of doing one day. However, nobody has been able to knock off Busch the past couple of years. The driver of the No. 18 Toyota will be looking to pull off the weekend double for the third year in a row with a legitimate shot at winning both the Xfinity Series and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races in Indianapolis.

Past Five Winners

2016: Kyle Busch

2015: Kyle Busch

2014: Ty Dillon

2013: Kyle Busch

2012: Brad Keselowski

What To Know About The Track

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is unique to any other track on the NASCAR circuit in large part because it wasn’t designed for bigger cars. The large stock cars carry fast speeds in to the flat corners and that can make this track that much more challenging. Passing can be very difficult, which is why track position is so important. Experience will play a major role in the success of those that finish near the front this week, which is something we have seen again and again with Busch over the years. Fuel strategy is always a key at the “Brickyard” and that will once again be the case this weekend.

The Field

Busch will once again headline this week’s field as he goes for the double at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. He has dominated here in the past and nobody will be surprised if the sportsbooks have him priced accordingly. Brad Keselowski is another driver to watch after he finished fifth last week at New Hampshire. Ty Dillon is the only driver other than Busch to win the Xfinity Series race at Indianapolis dating back to 2012. Rookie of the Year frontrunner William Byron placed third at New Hampshire last week. Kyle Larson finished fourth in last week’s race and should be in the mix again this week at Indianapolis.

A Good Matchup To Bet: Brad Keselowski over Ty Dillon

Dillon might have won here in 2014 and he should be in the mix again this weekend but we like Keselowski to finish ahead of him. Keselowski, who won here in 2012, led a race-high 102 laps at New Hampshire last week before pit troubles set him back. Keselowski ultimately finished fifth at New Hampshire and should be motivated to bounce back with a strong performance this week. Keselowski might not beat out Busch for the outright win, but he should finish ahead of Dillon in the Lilly Diabetes 250.

Top-Five Pick: Kyle Busch

Busch has fallen short of expectations in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series this season but he is tied with Larson for the most wins in the Xfinity Series with three each despite making two fewer starts than his counterpart. Busch has placed in the top-five in all but one of his six starts so far this season and there is no reason to expect that trend to end at a race that he has dominated in recent years. Busch is an absolute lock to finish in the top-five in the Lilly Diabetes 250 this Saturday and it won’t be a surprise if he wins this race for the third year in a row.
