2018 NCAA Pac-12 Conference Tournament Preview and Picks

The field is set for the 2018 Pac-12 Conference Tournament, which begins on March 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Nevada on the Las Vegas Strip. All 12 teams in the Pac-12 are in the field. Only two teams appear to be locks for the NCAA Tournament, with two on the bubble and a few others that are looking to make a magical run to steal a bid by winning the conference tournament.
Amazingly, the #1 and the #9 seeds are the ones guaranteed berths in the NCAA Tournament. Arizona State is on solid ground because of what the Sun Devils accomplished during the non-conference portion of the schedule. All of the teams in between are on the bubble or aren’t even in the conversation. USC is in by most projections, but the Trojans could still use a strong effort this weekend. UCLA is out in most projections, but they can change the script this week.
The top four seeds get a bye to the quarterfinals, so we have four games coming up on Wednesday in the first round.

This will be the second year for the tournament at T-Mobile Arena, but the sixth straight year in Las Vegas. The primary contenders for this conference tournament should have a lot of support from their respective fan bases, as USC and UCLA, are just a few hours drive away, and Arizona always tends to show well in tournaments. Given what has happened with Arizona over the last few weeks, you can bet that their fans feel just a little bit more incentive to support the Wildcats..

Team Records
Three of the top four seeds should take care of business on Wednesday, setting up an interesting round of quarterfinal games. Arizona vs. Arizona State would be a great way to start the day, with UCLA a comfortable favorite over Stanford, and then two teams on the bubble in USC and Washington. Utah without home court advantage against Oregon could be very interesting..

13. Arizona 24-7 (14-4)
14. USC 21-10 (12-6)
15. Utah 19-10 (11-7) (H2H tiebreakers)
16. UCLA 20-10 (11-7)
17. Stanford 17-14 (11-7)
18. Oregon 20-11 (10-8)
19. Washington 20-10 (10-8)
20. Colorado 16-14 (8-10)
21. Arizona State 20-10 (8-10)
22. Oregon State 15-15 (7-11)
23. Washington State 12-18 (4-14)
24. California 8-23 (2-16)

Outlook & Pick
Oregon is a team worth considering from a futures standpoint. Utah is a decent #3 seed, but the difference between the two teams is negligible. If Oregon can get to USC in the semifinals, you’ll get a decent hedging opportunity. USC swept the season series, but they were close games. If Arizona State didn’t run into Arizona, they’d be the most popular pick on the board.
UCLA is a decent gamble as well, with Arizona coming off of an emotional week and then a likely win against a rival. If the Sun Devils pull the upset, Friday becomes something of a flat spot, which UCLA should be able to take advantage of and advance.
The plays here would be Oregon and UCLA if you’re looking for some futures value, but don’t be surprised if this highly-focused Arizona team continues its push to stick it to the NCAA.
