Prop Odds on 2018 Super Bowl Halftime Appearances

NSYNC Super Bowl Halftime

There always seems to one or two surprise Super Bowl Halftime Show appearances. Since the NFL moved away from older acts to gain traction with younger viewers, mystery guests have been a staple.

Although Lady Gaga did not have any surprises for us last year, performing the show on her own, the previous six Super Bowl halftime shows gave us at least one mystery guest. Of those, four of the six had multiple guests. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the 2018 Super Bowl prop odds surrounding celebrities making an appearance during the halftime show.

Will Britney Spears make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +300
No -500

This will be one of the most popular ones to bet on. Everyone who was alive during the Y2K era remembers that before there was Selena and Justin, there was Justin and Britney. The two were one of the most famous couples in music before their breakup. That breakup helped launch Justin Timberlake’s career, as “Cry Me A River” was his way of throwing shade at Spears after the split.

Having Spears perform alongside him for a song or two would be huge news, but it’s very unlikely to happen. Although Britney is free of her Las Vegas residency after four years in the desert, JT won’t be including her in his set list.

Will Janet Jackson make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +400
No -600

The line for this should be closer to -5000 on the ‘No’. After what happened the last time these two shared a stage, Roger Goodell won’t be letting Janet Jackson within a mile of the stadium. There is no way the NFL would green light any sort of appearance from Jackson. Perhaps JT gives her a shoutout or a tribute during his performance, but that will be the extent of it.

Will Al Michaels make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +1000
No -2000

To my knowledge, we have never seen an announcer take part in the halftime festivities. Although there is more time allotted for halftime at the Super Bowl than during a regular NFL game, the dynamics of this just don’t make sense. Michaels is not one who craves the limelight or seeks to take the attention off the game. Even though JT wants to see Al Michaels shake his booty, the ‘No’ is probably a lock here.

Will Tony Romo make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +1000
No -2000

As a member of the CBS broadcast team, there is no chance that NBC would allow Romo to take part in the halftime show. It might make a little sense if his former team, the Dallas Cowboys, were involved in the Super Bowl, but not so much in a game between Philadelphia and New England. Romo has been great in the booth, and he is good friends with Timberlake, but incorporating him into a performance is a bit much.

Will any member of NSYNC make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +150
No -180

This is the first of these bets that is very much in play. Timberlake got his start as the front man for NSYNC and has kept in contact with his former bandmates over the years. It wouldn’t be too big of a stretch to have the five of them unite once again. While Joey Fatone has poured water on the speculation, it may just be a big smoke screen.

Will Jay Z make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +300
No -500

Almost five years ago, Jay-Z came out of the crowd to perform “Suit & Tie” with Timberlake at the Grammy Awards, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see something like that happen again. Timberlake and Jay Z teamed up on JT’s last big album and also went on tour together. If JT doesn’t bring NSYNC back for a song or two, Jay Z is the next most likely candidate.

Will Madonna make a Super Bowl halftime show appearance?
Yes +400
No -600

Madonna might be working on a new album, but a pairing with Timberlake just doesn’t make sense. It would be seen as a shot across the bow to Britney Spears if Madonna were to join him on stage instead of her, and JT does not seem like he’s looking for any sort of drama at this stage in his life. There isn’t a natural fit for her in any of his songs either, making ‘No’ a good bet here.
