PGA

The best on the PGA Tour will make their way to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and the TPC Sawgrass course for this week’s Players Championship. Considered by many to be essentially the fifth major tournament on the PGA Tour schedule, the Players Championship is one of the most prestigious events on the schedule and will once again draw an impressive field of contenders. We broke down that field and circled the options we think have the best chance to win this tournament outright. Here is a look at the best bets for this year’s Players Championship. 2013: Tiger Woods -13

Jason Day +1600

The stars have lined up for Day to be one of the sports betting favorites to win the Players Championship outright. Day is coming off an impressive win last week and he is a former Sawgrass champion. While winning back-to-back events isn’t easy, Day has done is before in his career. With a great record in Florida, it’s impossible to overlook Day as the sports betting favorite to win this tournament.

Jordan Spieth +1600

Spieth is another of the co-favorites to win this year’s Player Championship for good reason. While he’s missed the last two cuts here, Spieth has a decent record on Pete Dye tracks and he finished fourth here when he debuted at this tournament three years ago. While he might not be as attractive of an option as the red-hot Day, Spieth should be a popular pick to win in Florida this week.

Justin Thomas +1600

Thomas ranks among the top contenders in the tournament in a number of the key statistics that should be looked at heading in to the Players Championship. More importantly, Thomas has proven he could contend here before after he placed third at this event in 2016. While he has been a little disappointing of late, Thomas shouldn’t be ignored heading in to a tournament where he could finally break through and contend for the outright win.

Rory McIlroy +1600

McIlroy is the final option on the board that is being offered at +1600 odds according to some sportsbooks. While he might not be considered an equal favorite to Day despite their betting odds, McIlroy should be an intriguing option in this week’s tournament. After all, Rory’s underlying numbers are great and he has shown he can putt at a high level on the Bermuda greens. With four top-12 finishes in his last five starts at this event, it will be interesting to see if this is the year that McIlroy finally contends for the win at the Players.

Patrick Reed +3300

There is definitely value betting on this year’s Masters champion to contend for the outright win in Florida this week. Reed is coming off his sixth straight top-10 finish at Quail Hollow last week and yet still he is available at significantly better odd than the top favorites on the board.

Ian Poulter +5500

Poulter’s underlying stats line up nicely for a strong performance this week. After all, he has really excelled on Bermuda greens and he has a great record in Florida. That record includes a history of playing well at Pete Dye designs including two runner up finishes at this course. At +5000 odds, Poulter is definitely an intriguing betting option to consider this week.

Bubba Watson +5500

Another intriguing option to consider this week is Watson, who is listed at +9000 odds to win this tournament despite the fact that he has already won twice this year. Watson, who recently placed fifth at the Masters, could be a dark horse sleeper pick to contend for the outright win at excellent odds.

Si Woo Kim +8000

Speaking of value, Kim is an intriguing sleeper pick for this week’s tournament based on both his talent and his +8000 price tag. Kim looked very good here in the opening round last year and while he couldn’t close on a high note that experience should help give him an edge in his return to TPC Sawgrass. One interesting note to consider for Kim is the fact that he more than half of the winners at this tournament have been positioned inside the top-three after day one in previous appearances here. Kim was just two strokes back of the lead after round one when he competed here last year. While he isn’t a favorite to win this tournament for obvious reasons, Kim could be worth sprinkling a small amount of money on as an intriguing sleeper value pick to win the Players.
