The 2026 NFL season is less than three months away, but teams remain in offseason mode as mandatory minicamps get under way. The Miami Dolphins and Pittsburgh Steelers began their mandatory sessions this week, with 19 teams scheduled for three-day minicamps next week and 11 teams set to practice the week of June 15. After a monthlong break, all 32 training camps will open in late July, according to ESPN.
ESPN’s NFL reporters will be on site during the three weeks of minicamps to provide daily updates on position battles, rookie and new-player appearances, notable quotes from coaches and players, and developments on injuries and holdout situations. The network said it will publish daily camp updates and depth charts for all 32 teams.
In Miami, center Aaron Brewer returned to practice Tuesday after missing OTAs last week for a family engagement that had been cleared, reported Marcel Louis-Jacques (June 2) for ESPN. Brewer commented on the Dolphins’ rebuilt offensive line, noting rookie Kadyn Proctor at left guard has “carried himself like a veteran” and that Jonah Savaiinaea, who played left guard as a rookie last season, “is very comfortable in that right guard spot.” Quarterback Malik Willis had his first pass in team drills intercepted by JuJu Brents but otherwise was credited with a solid day, including a well-placed jump ball to Jalen Tolbert. The Dolphins had no unexcused absences for the mandatory portion of the program; Brewer and Jordyn Brooks, both in contract talks, attended.
In Pittsburgh, the team agreed to a contract extension with linebacker Nick Herbig on Tuesday; ESPN reported Herbig landed a four-year, $100 million extension. Joey Porter Jr. appeared to be holding in during the first minicamp session as he awaits his own extension, and defensive back Jalen Ramsey participated in individual drills during the media shooting period after being largely absent from OTAs. Brooke Pryor (June 2) for ESPN highlighted praise from the Steelers’ staff, including assistant head coach/secondary coach Joe Whitt Jr.’s comparison to Charles Woodson and coach Mike McCarthy’s remarks that Ramsey is “a special piece to our defense” who can play multiple roles.
