205 Live Recap: Kalisto Debuts

Tonight, 205 Live features a ton of in-ring action, another Enzo Amore promo, and the debut of the latest addition to the Cruiserweight Division: Kalisto. In his debut, Kalisto will be taking on proud Iranian Ariya Daivari. Also tonight, Drew Gulak faces an old rival in Mustafa Ali and Cedric Alexander goes head-to-head with Gentleman Jack Gallagher in hopes of getting some revenge.

Kalisto vs. Ariya Daivari
After the entire Cruiserweight Division gave up their opportunities at future Cruiserweight Championship matches while Enzo Amore holds the title, Kurt Angle announced that Kalisto was signed as the newest member of the division. Tonight, the former two-time United States Champion and the only possible challenger to Zo’s championship, Kalisto, makes his 205 Live debut.

Ariya Daivari has been trying to butter up Enzo Amore and trying to get on his good side so he could potentially earn back his title shot. After failing to defeat Neville last week, this might be his last chance to prove himself to Amore as he takes on the hottest new Cruiserweight signee.

Kalisto kicks out of the Persian Lion Splash (a renamed Frog Splash) and while Daivari attempts to try something else, the Diminutive Dynamo hits the Salida Del Sol out of nowhere to get the win in his debut. Winner: Kalisto

It is nice to see Kalisto in the Cruiserweight Division, considering that it was something that probably should have been established a year ago. Also, after his appearance on Monday Night Raw this week, it seems like WWE has decided to go back to his old entrance music that he used while part of the Lucha Dragons. This is probably a good move because not only did it sound a lot like TJP’s entrance theme at the beginning, it was just plain bad. Kalisto has also reverted back to his more traditional lucha libre, Rey Mysterio-inspired mask compared to the more alien-like, sci-fi mask from his return to Raw.

Drew Gulak vs. Mustafa Ali
Before Drew Gulak returns to face an old nemesis in Mustafa Ali, he brings back his much-anticipated Powerpoint Presentation. Gulak introduces Proposal 8 of his vision for the future of “a better 205 Live,” which calls for “no flipping.” Gulak then looks to move onto Proposal 9 of 277, but Mustafa Ali interrupts and the match gets underway.

Ali was Gulak’s original target to start changing 205 Live, but Ali refused to change his ways. When Gulak kept failing to defeat his risk-taking, high-flying counterpart, he actually tried to dive off of the turnbuckle himself, but it backfired.

As usual, Mustafa Ali gets the upper hand and puts the ground-based Drew Gulak with the 054 Splash in direct violation of Proposal 8. After the match, Akira Tozawa makes his way to the ring to do the “Ah!” chant right over Gulak, taunting him after a loss. Winner: Mustafa Ali

Cedric Alexander vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher
For a few months, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick were feuding in a rivalry that kept getting more and more heated. While Kendrick was competing against Cedric Alexander a few weeks ago, Gallagher interfered in the match, but instead of attacking his rival, he joined forces with Kendrick and assaulted Alexander. Now weeks later, Alexander has his chance to get some retribution on the Extraordinary Gentleman.

Prior to the match, The Brian Kendrick is being interviewed backstage. Before he answers any question, Cedric Alexander attacks him from behind, taking him out of the equation to make sure that his match is truly one-on-one.

Gallagher tries to bring his umbrella, William III, into the match, but the referee won’t allow it. Alexander grabs it and decides to use it himself, getting disqualified but also getting revenge. Alexander’s attack continues after the match and the two go all around the ring. The assault only stops when several referees stop Alexander and Kendrick hobbles to the entrance ramp to check on his new ally. Winner: Cedric Alexander
