205 Live Recap: Derailing the Drew Train

Photo from WWE.com

205 Live this week is the first episode in a while without Enzo Amore. Drew Gulak leads the Zo Train through a night of great action, including revisiting the Cedric Alexander/Noam Dar rivalry, and the return of the King of the Ropes, Gran Metalik.

Opening Segment
To kick off the show, Drew Gulak comes down to the ring. Since Gulak was the only member of the Zo Train to win a Fatal Four-Way Match over the past two weeks, Enzo Amore dubbed him the temporary conductor of the Zo Train, including lending him the unique microphone. Gulak looks to use this opportunity to give a Powerpoint presentation on leadership, but he is immediately interrupted by Cedric Alexander.

Before their planned match can get underway, Gulak reveals that Alexander is not facing him. Instead, he is facing a member of the Zo Train that needs to prove himself after recent failure, Noam Dar.

Cedric Alexander vs. Noam Dar
Over the past year that 205 Live has been around, Cedric Alexander and Noam Dar have developed quite the history with each other. Their ongoing rivalry first started earlier this year when Alexander broke up with Alicia Fox, then Dar started dating her solely to get back at him. That portion of their feud ended in a vicious I Quit Match, but they always seem to cross paths no matter what their goals are.

Dar goes to the top rope and Gulak instructs him to get down as part of his future for a better 205 Live, also known as his Drewtopia. Dar takes too much time capitalizing and Alexander immediately kicks the Scottish Supernova in the face. The follows up with the Lumbar Check, scoring yet another victory over Dar. Winner: Cedric Alexander

The Brian Kendrick (w/Gentleman Jack Gallagher) vs. Gran Metalik
Last week, Gentleman Jack Gallagher took on the returning Kalisto, who seemed to have the match won when Kendrick interrupted to assault the former Cruiserweight Champion. Apparently, to avenge Kalisto (since in WWE, all luchadors are friends), Gran Metalik returns to action to take on the Man with a Plan.

Brian Kendrick gets dumped to the ring apron after attempting the Sliced Bread #2, but he immediately turns things around again by slamming Gran Metalik’s head into the ring post. Kendrick rolls Metalik into the ring and locks in the Captain’s Hook, but Metalik is completely motionless. The referee realizes this and calls for the bell. Winner (via referee’s decision): The Brian Kendrick

Announcements
After an unexplained absence from this week’s episode of 205 Live, the Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Amore, will be back next week. Also, there is another video package hyping the main roster debut of Hideo Itami, who is expected to be “coming soon.” Itami will provide a fresh new face for 205 Live and hopefully more eyes on the underappreciated show.

For the first time ever, 205 Live will be having its own live events. For a weekend in the middle of January, they will be touring the Northeastern United States as a bit of a test run for what they can do in the future.

Rich Swann (w/Cedric Alexander) vs. Tony Nese (w/Drew Gulak)
Next week on Raw, Rich Swann will compete against Drew Gulak in a #1 Contender’s match to determine who will be the next man to challenge Enzo Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship. Swann defeated Noam Dar, Ariya Daivari, and Akira Tozawa in his Fatal Four-Way victory and now he looks to defeat a member of the Zo Train (Tony Nese) to gain momentum.

While breaking Drew Gulak’s cardinal rule for a better 205 Live, Rich Swann climbs to the top rope to hit Tony Nese with a Phoenix Splash. This is the second loss tonight for the Zo Train, so things are not looking good for the champion’s cozy title reign. Gulak did not build any momentum tonight in part to his time managing the Zo Train, while Swann has gained a leg up for their match this Monday. Winner: Rich Swann

After the match, Gulak summons the rest of the available Zo Train Members (Noam Dar and Ariya Daivari) to surround the ring. Before they can attack Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander, Akira Tozawa and Mustafa Ali appear out of nowhere to even things up and to send them packing. The four faces stand tall to close out the show.
