205 Live Recap: Aries Regains #1 Contendership

The Cruiserweight Division has had its biggest week since being created last September, featuring a great Cruiserweight Championship match between Neville and Austin Aries. With the King of the Cruiserweights still on top, there is a Fatal Four Way #1 Contender’s match later tonight to main event 205 Live between Austin Aries, TJ Perkins, “Gentleman” Jack Gallagher, and Mustafa Ali.

Akira Tozawa vs. Brian Kendrick
Last week, Akira Tozawa finally got what he has been demanding for weeks: a match with Brian Kendrick. Unfortunately for Tozawa, Kendrick exposed a turnbuckle and used it to his advantage to pick up the victory. Before Kendrick makes his way to the ring, he gives Tozawa his tenth lesson: “It’s not about athleticism; it’s about psychological supremacy.”

Brian Kendrick tries to convince the referee that Tozawa poked him in the eye, but the referee does not believe him. Tozawa tries an attack from the top turnbuckle, but he tweaks his knee, or at least that is what he wants everybody to think. The referee checks up on Tozawa, and the Stamina Monster uses Kendrick’s lesson against him, rolling him up for the victory. Winner: Akira Tozawa

Rich Swann vs. Oney Lorcan
The former Cruiserweight Champion, Rich Swann, was supposed to take on Noam Dar last week after anonymously sending Alicia Fox (Dar’s girlfriend) gifts. Dar suffered an injury against Austin Aries on Raw last week, so Swann ended up picking up a victory over Ariya Daivari. Dar is still out of action this week, so Swann takes on a newcomer to 205 Live in NXT’s Oney Lorcan.

It is unclear if Oney Lorcan is still going to be competing in NXT, but he is already making a great first impression in the Cruiserweight Division. Lorcan wasn’t regularly featured in NXT, but when he was competing, he would always put on hard-hitting and exciting matches, and he is doing the same tonight.

Rich Swann hits Oney Lorcan with a leaping super hurricanrana, then he proceeds to finish off Lorcan with a Phoenix Splash. After the match, Swann grabs the microphone to officially announce that he has been sending Alicia Fox those presents. Winner: Rich Swann

Announcement
Five competitors from the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament – Trent Seven, Mark Andrews, Pete Dunne, Wolfgang, and the United Kingdom Champion, Tyler Bate – are standing on the stage to be re-introduced to the WWE Universe. The UK competitors featured in the tournament are getting their own weekly show this year, and Tom Phillips says that WWE.com will have more information, but no timetable is given.

In-ring Segment
Neville comes down to the ring to celebrate his WrestleMania win. He attacked the eyes of Aries to retain the Cruiserweight Championship, and he believes that Aries deserved it. Neville thanks the crowd for turning on him, which lit a fire in his belly and gave him the extra motivation he needed to get better. He also thanks Austin Aries and the 205 Live roster for not being as good as he believes he is.

Gentleman Jack Gallagher vs. TJ Perkins vs. Austin Aries vs. Mustafa Ali – #1 Contender’s Match (Cruiserweight Championship)
All four of these men have recently been around the Cruiserweight Championship title picture. TJ Perkins feuded with Neville at the beginning of 2017, Jack Gallagher failed to capture the title at Fastlane, Mustafa Ali has put on two great matches with Neville over the past few weeks, and Austin Aries just lost his title match at WrestleMania. It has almost become a trend for #1 Contender’s Matches on 205 Live to be a Five-Way Elimination Match, but this is just a standard Fatal Four-Way Match.

Jack Gallagher hits TJ Perkins with his signature headbutt, but he knocks himself too loopy to stay in the ring. Perkins is groggy in the middle of the ring, and Austin Aries takes advantage to hit the former champion with the Discus Five-arm, immediately returning to his spot as Neville’s challenger. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: Austin Aries
