205 Live Recap: Tozawa Takes On TJP

On this week’s episode of 205 Live, WWE builds current stories, we learn what is going on with Austin Aries, and we get a visit from the Titus Brand. Cedric Alexander tries to move on from his ex-girlfriend Alicia Fox by taking on Ariya Daivari. In the main event, Akira Tozawa battles the first-ever Cruiserweight Champion, TJP.

Opening Segment
Akira Tozawa is getting ready for his match tonight when he is approached by Titus O’Neil. O’Neil has been trying to get Tozawa to join the Titus Brand for weeks since O’Neil thinks that Tozawa will be the next Cruiserweight Champion. After Tozawa got the “VIP treatment” on Raw this week, he gets the main event match against TJP thanks to Titus O’Neil’s connections.

Before the show gets underway, there is a new commentator to the 205 Live team. Replacing Tom Phillips, Vic Joseph is going to be the new play-by-play commentator alongside Corey Graves.

Cedric Alexander vs. Ariya Daivari
Ever since Cedric Alexander returned from his injury, he has been featured on every episode of 205 Live and a couple episodes of Raw. He has won a few squash matches along with defeated Noam Dar in his two most recent matches. This week, he faces Ariya Daivari.

Daivari has been a solid performer since 205 Live’s inception, most notably his lengthy feud with Jack Gallagher. Just like Corey Graves says, all Daivari needs to make it to the next level is to string a couple victories together.

Noam Dar comes down to the ring while talking to Alicia Fox on FaceTime with the intent of attacking Cedric Alexander. Alexander clocks Dar before he gets in the ring and Daivari takes advantage of the situation by going for a roll-up. Alexander kicks out and lays out Daivari with the Lumbar Check for yet another win. Winner: Cedric Alexander

After the match, Alexander picks up Dar’s phone and messes with Alicia Fox before hanging up on her.

In-ring Segment
Austin Aries has been absent from WWE television since losing to Neville at Extreme Rules, and he comes to the ring to reveal what is going on. Aries says that he has “a little bit of leg stuff going on” and “a little bit of neck stuff” going on. WWE needs some test results before he can be medically cleared to compete. Before Aries heads out of the ring, he is interrupted by Tony Nese.

Nese calls himself the future of 205 Live before threatening Aries. Since Aries is unable to get physical, Gentleman Jack Gallagher comes to Aries’ aid. Gallagher fends off Nese with the help of William III (his umbrella), and this confrontation leads to the two getting a match for next week.

Video Package
There is a video package highlighting the “exciting” Mustafa Ali when it is interrupted by a PSA from Drew Gulak. Gulak gives his usual campaign speech regarding how Ali should keep his feet on the ground and avoid high-flying. Ali has his third opportunity to score a win over Gulak next week.

Akira Tozawa vs. TJP
According to Corey Graves, Akira Tozawa is the Cruiserweight with the most momentum that isn’t the Cruiserweight Champion. Tozawa had a three-month long feud with The Brian Kendrick, which he won in a street fight three weeks ago. TJP had a chance to become a two-time Cruiserweight Champion last week when he faced Neville, but he came up short. Now, both men are in a very important position to build momentum.

TJP tries to lock in the kneebar, but Tozawa prevents TJP from getting all of it. Tozawa then sets the former Cruiserweight Champion up for a senton from the top rope, picking up an impressive victory. Winner: Akira Tozawa

Titus O’Neil is backstage celebrating Akira Tozawa’s victory when he is interrupted by the Cruiserweight Champion, Neville. Neville warns O’Neil that Tozawa is getting set up for “pain and misery,” but the CEO of the Titus Brand says that Akira Tozawa is the future of 205 Live.
