205 Live Recap: Who Faces Neville Next?

Photo from WWE.com

Just like SmackDown Live earlier tonight, 205 Live this week has big SummerSlam implications. In the main event, Ariya Daivari competes against Akira Tozawa with the winner taking on Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship at SummerSlam. Also, The Brian Kendrick takes on Gentleman Jack Gallagher while Tony Nese faces Gran Metalik.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher
For weeks, The Brian Kendrick has been mocking and making fun of Gentleman Jack Gallagher by calling him a caricature of an Englishman, but he seems to have stuck with calling Gallagher a “clown.” Just last week, Kendrick gradually edited a photo of Gallagher to make him look like a clown. Before this match gets underway, Kendrick says that he is going to send Gallagher to “where he belongs,” the circus.

While Kendrick is trying to escape the ring, Gallagher repeatedly stomps his head and neck. The referee tries to break up the assault because Kendrick is technically under the rope, but Gallagher refuses to let up on the attack. The Extraordinary Gentleman then looks to finish Kendrick off with William III, but the former Cruiserweight Champion escapes through the crowd. Winner (via disqualification): The Brian Kendrick

In case you missed the huge announcement yesterday, Gentleman Jack Gallagher will compete at Progress Wrestling’s show in New York City when he challenges Pete Dunne for the WWE United Kingdom Championship.

Announcement
After weeks of friendly competition between TJP and Rich Swann, they look to settle things in a match against each other next week. Swann defeated TJP in a match a few weeks ago, and ever since that loss, TJP seems to have been obsessed with being better than Swann. This has included tag team matches and a competition to see who can defeat an enhancement talent the fastest.

Tony Nese vs. Gran Metalik
Before the match gets underway, Tony Nese brags about himself. He talks about how his “chiseled” body is what a Premier Athlete looks like, and he has proven his talent when his team defeated Cedric Alexander and Rich Swann in the main event of last week’s episode. He goes on to insult Gran Metalik, implying that he covers himself up because he is ugly, but Metalik himself interrupts the speech to get the match started.

It is always refreshing to see Gran Metalik back in a WWE ring, and this time it is with a new mask. Metalik is one of the most talented luchadores to compete for WWE, and he is known as the King of the Ropes. He showed his incredible talent in the Cruiserweight Classic when he made it to the finals.

Tony Nese launches Gran Metalik, but Metalik lands on the second rope. Before Metalik can capitalize, Nese kicks his feet out from under him, setting Metalik up in the bottom turnbuckle. The Premier Athlete then runs the ropes and picks up the victory with the Tony Knees. Winner: Tony Nese

Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari – #1 Contender’s Match (Cruiserweight Championship)
At Raw’s Great Balls of Fire Pay-Per-View event, Akira Tozawa unfairly lost a Cruiserweight Championship match against Neville and he has been looking to get a rematch ever since. In his pursuit for another shot at the title, Tozawa picked up a pinfall victory over Neville in a tag team match, but he has also found someone trying to cut ahead of him: Ariya Daivari. Daivari has been challenging Tozawa’s honor while picking apart his shoulder injury, and after Daivari attacked Neville last week, he has made himself a threat.

The winner of this match will challenge Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship at SummerSlam.

With only one healthy arm, Akira Tozawa is able to stay in the match long enough to pick up on Ariya Daivari’s mistakes. After a burst of adrenaline, Tozawa hits a suicide dive followed up by the Senton Bomb to put Daivari away and to pick up the victory. Tozawa moves on to a title match at SummerSlam, making him the second man on that night to be representing his home country of Japan along with Shinsuke Nakamura, who challenges Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: Akira Tozawa
