205 Live Recap: The New Era of Tozawa

This week, 205 Live follows an historic night of Monday Night Raw which hosted a surprise Cruiserweight Championship match between Neville and Akira Tozawa. This episode of 205 Live marks the first in the era with Tozawa holding the Cruiserweight Championship, where he will celebrate his victory. Along with the celebration, there is a tag team match, Mustafa Ali goes head-to-head with Brian Kendrick, and Rich Swann takes on Ariya Daivari.

Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik vs. Tony Nese & Drew Gulak
Over the past two weeks, Tony Nese has defeated both Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik in singles competition. Alexander and Metalik both wanted rematches, and according to Drew Gulak, Nese called Gulak up asking who he should face first. Gulak’s suggestion was not to choose, but to face both of them at the time tame with Gulak on his side. Gulak does not like showboating on 205 Live, but he claims that Nese is a show off for the right reasons: health and fitness. Nese and Gulak are frequent partners, so they have the advantage over their opponents.

Gulak tries to roll up Alexander, but Alexander counters it into the Lumbar Check, picking up a victory over Tony Nese without actually defeating him. While Nese lost, he can still brag about being better than Alexander and Metalik. Winners: Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik

Mustafa Ali vs. The Brian Kendrick
According to Vic Joseph, Mustafa Ali was doing an interview and The Brian Kendrick interrupted him, so Ali challenged him to a match. Kendrick has been feuding with Gentleman Jack Gallagher and after Gallagher attacked him from behind last week, Kendrick seems to be very paranoid. On his way to the ring, Kendrick looks all over the place, expecting Gallagher to pop up out of nowhere. He also brings this paranoia to the match, failing to put 100% of his focus on Mustafa Ali.

Kendrick sticks Ali’s foot in the steel steps and looks to do some serious damage. Before he can do anything, however, Gallagher rushes behind him and assaults him all over the ring. Kendrick retreats through the crowd and this proves that his paranoia was appropriate. Result: No Contest

Rich Swann vs. Ariya Daivari
Before this match got underway, Rich Swann was keeping his head high in an interview after losing to TJP in the main event last week. During his promo, Ariya Daivari informed him that TJP suffered an injury so he doesn’t have to focus on him for a while. Swann should not take Daivari lightly, though, since Daivari almost became the #1 Contender for the Cruiserweight Championship a couple weeks ago.

While Swann climbs to the top rope for the Phoenix Splash, TJP’s music starts blaring through the arena and he appears on the entrance ramp to stare him down. Swann is “in disbelief,” staring at TJP, who is in a leg cast and walking on crutches. Daivari takes advantage to sweep Swann off of the rope and to finish him off with the Hammerlock Lariat. Winner: Ariya Daivari

Interview w/Brian Kendrick
During an interview, an even more paranoid Brian Kendrick decides that if Jack Gallagher keeps attacking him, perhaps he will play Gallagher’s game. Kendrick challenges Gallagher to a duel for next week’s episode of 205 Live.

Akira Tozawa’s Championship Celebration
After dethroning the King of the Cruiserweights, Akira Tozawa is here on 205 Live to celebrate his Cruiserweight Championship victory in a moment put together by Titus Worldwide. While this has been something Tozawa has been working towards for years, it is also the first huge moment for Titus O’Neil’s brand after a rough start earlier this year. Before the celebration can really begin, they are interrupted by a dejected Neville.

Neville tries to pick a fight with Tozawa, but the champion is prepared and throws his SummerSlam opponent all over the place and lays him out with a suicide dive headbutt. With Neville in agony, Tozawa stands tall with his title to end the show.
