205 Live Recap: A Little Bit of Everything

Photo from WWE.com

This week, 205 Live features a little bit of everything. After weeks of brawling and mockery, Gentleman Jack Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick go head-to-head in a No Disqualification Match. Then, Rich Swann looks to make up for a loss last week by facing Ariya Daivari in a rematch while trying to gain momentum in his friendly competition with TJP. Lastly, the main event features a six-man tag where Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, and Noam Dar face Cedric Alexander, Gran Metalik, and the debuting Enzo Amore.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Gentleman Jack Gallagher – No Disqualification Match
In 205 Live’s history, The Brian Kendrick tends to get into long-term feuds with other Cruiserweights, from TJP to Akira Tozawa, and now, Gentleman Jack Gallagher. Over the past couple months, Kendrick chose Gallagher as his newest enemy because he believes Gallagher is a mockery of what 205 Live should be. Kendrick has compared Gallagher to a clown and a caricature of England.

Kendrick challenged Gallagher to a Gentleman’s Duel scheduled for last week, which ended up being a setup for Kendrick to attack Gallagher from behind. Kendrick says that he is a fighter and doesn’t want to play games, so he suggested this No Disqualification match.

This isn’t much of a traditional back and forth match, but instead, both Superstars take turns dominating each half of the match. Gallagher has an incredibly strong start, but once Kendrick is able to turn things in his favor, he unleashes his brutal side. The ringside doctors have to check on Gallagher during the assault and clear him to finish the match, which just gives Kendrick the go-ahead to finish dominating his opponent. After DDT-ing Gallagher on the ring bell, Kendrick locks in the Captain’s Hook, assisted by a kendo stick, and the referee calls for the bell once Gallagher stops moving. Winner (via submission): The Brian Kendrick

Rich Swann vs. Ariya Daivari
Last week, Rich Swann and Ariya Daivari squared off and Swann seemed to have the match won. However, TJP showed up on the entrance ramp for no reason, and Swann was distracted by his “friendly competitor,” so now, Swann has an opportunity to make up for the loss. TJP is on commentary for this match so another distraction could take place, but TJP is suffering from a knee injury with no timetable for his return.

Daivari and Swann fight outside of the ring and when Daivari throws Swann back into the ring, he goes to use TJP’s crutch as a weapon. TJP rips the crutch out of Daivari’s hand and Swann takes advantage of the confrontation with a roll-up to pick up a quick win. Winner: Rich Swann

After the match, Daivari starts attacking TJP and the two brawl into the ring. TJP seems to be holding his own, even jumping off of the wrapped up knee. Swanna and the WWE Universe see right through TJP, and it looks like he has been faking the injury the whole time.

Tony Nese, Drew Gulak, & Noam Dar vs. Enzo Amore, Cedric Alexander, & Gran Metalik
Enzo Amore seems so out of place on 205 Live, but it could be what the WWE Network-exclusive show needs to gain a more casual audience. 205 Live has always been focused on incredible in-ring and technical ability, but Amore is definitely more of a Superstar than a wrestler. Teaming up with Cedric Alexander and Gran Metalik can either hide his faults or expose how behind he is in the ability department.

Their opponents echo the thoughts of a lot of the WWE Universe, saying that Enzo Amore’s addition to 205 Live is dragging the quality of the show down. Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, and Noam Dar were all signed by WWE for their ability to put on great matches week in and week out while working at a fast, exciting pace. It will be interesting to see how Amore can keep up with this style after working as the guy who always gets beaten up before tagging in Big Cass/Big Show for the past three years.

Like on Monday Night Raw this week, Amore hits Noam Dar with Jaw-donezo (also known as “Eat Defeat,” seen used by Mia Yim during the Mae Young Classic) and sends him out of the ring. However, Tony Nese is the legal man, so Amore pins him while using the ropes as leverage to steal the victory in his first match on 205 Live. Winners: Enzo Amore, Cedric Alexander, & Gran Metalik
