205 Live Recap: Aries Headed to WrestleMania

This week’s episode of 205 Live is perhaps the most important since the first. Main eventing the night is another Elimination Fatal Five-Way Match to determine the new #1 Contender for the Cruiserweight Championship, with that man challenging Neville for the title at WrestleMania 33. Also, we will see Jack Gallagher and Rich Swann team up for the second time.

Opening Segment
To kick off the show, we get the Cruiserweight Champion himself, Neville. The King of the Cruiserweights remembers his broken ankle that took place just over a year ago, leaving him out of WrestleMania. This year, he is already guaranteed a spot at the Grandest Stage of Them All, and he doesn’t care who his challenger will be. Neville says that no matter who it is, he will make them question their very existence.

Mustafa Ali vs. Drew Gulak
Neither Mustafa Ali or Drew Gulak are involved in the championship picture, but this match will help them move up in the division. After all, once WrestleMania is over, everything picks back up the following night on Raw.

Drew Gulak has the advantage for most of the match, but Mustafa Ali’s agility and aerial assault gives him the upper hand. After getting Gulak in position, Ali hits his signature inverted 450 Splash for the win. Drew Gulak grabs a microphone after his loss, and says that while he always loses, it is 205 Live that needs to change, not him. Winner: Mustafa Ali

Jack Gallagher & Rich Swann vs. Noam Dar & Ariya Daivari (w/Alicia Fox)
This exact match took place last week on 205 Live, with Jack Gallagher and Rich Swann picking up the victory. After the match, there was a delivery of chocolates to Alicia Fox, but it is unclear who these (and the flowers from a couple weeks ago) are being sent from. It seems like Dar is taking credit for these gifts even though there is no proof that he is the one getting them.

Ariya Daivari has no love lost for Jack Gallagher, which goes back to when they feuded for a few months. Gallagher seemed to get the upper hand at every turn, including the blow-off match, an “I Forfeit” Match.

Daivari dispels of Gallagher at ringside, and Noam Dar takes advantage of Swann’s misplaced attention to hit a running kick for the win. The Scottish Supernova grabs a microphone saying that this week’s gift for Fox was the match victory. Another delivery man shows up behind Dar with a large teddy bear, and Dar takes credit for that too. Winners: Noam Dar & Ariya Daivari

Akira Tozawa vs. Brian Kendrick vs. TJ Perkins vs. Austin Aries vs. TJ Perkins – #1 Contender’s Elimination Match (Cruiserweight Championship)
This is perhaps the biggest match in 205 Live history. Five incredibly talented WWE Superstars go head-to-head-to-head-to-head-to-head to determine who will challenge Neville for the Cruiserweight Championship at WrestleMania 33.

Tony Nese looks to hit the “Tony Knees” on TJ Perkins, but the first Cruiserweight Champion avoids disaster and locks in a Cross Armbreaker on the Premier Athlete for the elimination. Nese would attack Perkins after being eliminated, but he would get knocked out of the ring by Akira Tozawa. Eliminated (via submission): Tony Nese

While Tozawa’s attention is turned to Nese, Brian Kendrick grabs him from behind and teaches him another lesson by eliminating him with the Sliced Bread #2. Eliminated (via bread): Akira Tozawa

Perkins goes to hit the Detonation Kick on Austin Aries, but Kendrick sweeps Perkins’ legs, forcing Aries to fall on Perkins. Kendrick lays on top of Aries so two people cover for the pin, and there is no possible way for the former champion to kick out. Eliminated: TJ Perkins

Kendrick locks in the Captain’s Hook on Aries, but Perkins breaks it up in an act of revenge. Aries springs off of the ropes and hits a rolling elbow to the side of Brian Kendrick’s face, securing him a spot at WrestleMania. Winner, and NEW #1 Contender: Austin Aries
