College Football Week 9 Opening Odds Report

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

There are just five undefeated teams left in the country after a little less than two months of college football betting action. That means that at least one one-loss team is almost certainly a lock to make it to the College Football Playoff at the end of the year. There will be some elimination bouts this week as No. 9 Florida and No. 7 Georgia square off in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party, while one-loss No. 18 Iowa and one-loss No. 14 Washington State face tough road tests in games where they are an underdog on the CFB betting line.

Georgia Bulldogs -6.5

Florida Gators +6.5

Although Georgia holds the all-time advantage in its rivalry with Florida, the Gators have dominated this series over the past quarter-century. They have won 21 of the last 28 meetings, but the Bulldogs hammered the Gators in Jacksonville by 35 points last year.

Coming into this season, many thought that Georgia was ready to turn the corner and rule the SEC East for years to come. However, the Bulldogs have struggled. The defense has had some problems, while the passing game has been hit or miss with Jake Fromm at the helm.

That gives the Gators hope that they can seize the upper hand in this series once more. Florida has been better than anyone believed in Dan Mullen’s first year in Gainesville, and the defense has been one of the best in the SEC.

Iowa Hawkeyes +4.5

Penn State Nittany Lions -4.5

Iowa has one of the best defenses in the nation, and the Hawkeyes proved that against Maryland on Saturday. The Terrapins could only muster seven first downs and 110 total yards of offense against the Hawkeyes defense, in an easy 23-0 win for Iowa.

They will face a much tougher foe when they travel to Happy Valley to face Penn State this week. The Hawkeyes have yet to face an offense anywhere as good as Penn State’s and Trace McSorley is going to test this defense like no other quarterback has to this point. Iowa is looking for revenge after losing on the last play of the game to Penn State last year in Iowa City.

Washington State Cougars +3.5

Stanford Cardinal -3.5

Even though the Cougars picked up a big win against Oregon, people are still doubting this team. They are a short underdog on the road against a Stanford team that has not been good this year. Stanford has not been able to run the ball with Bryce Love at all, and the offense has been kind of a mess. However, the Cardinal have been dangerous in this position in the past, and there are sure to be many that like them in this spot.
