The San Francisco 49ers’ 2025 season came to a close on Saturday night following a 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite the lopsided defeat, players and coaches expressed pride in the team’s resilience and accomplishments throughout a challenging year.

Running back Christian McCaffrey addressed reporters after the game, emphasizing the team’s perseverance in the face of adversity. “Obviously, this isn’t how we wanted it to end,” McCaffrey said, “but I’m proud of how we battled all year.” The 49ers, who dealt with a series of injuries and lineup changes throughout the season, managed to remain competitive and secure a playoff berth.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan echoed McCaffrey’s sentiments, acknowledging both the sting of the loss and the efforts of his roster. “It hurts, sure, but I couldn’t be more proud of this group,” Shanahan said. “They didn’t quit. They gave everything they had each week.”

San Francisco entered the postseason with significant roster challenges, including injuries to key players on both offense and defense. Despite these setbacks, the team maintained a high level of play through much of the regular season. At various points, younger players and backups stepped in and contributed, demonstrating the depth and tenacity of the squad.

The Seahawks took control of the Wild Card game early, building a substantial lead that San Francisco couldn’t overcome. The 49ers struggled to find rhythm offensively, while their defense couldn’t contain Seattle’s balanced attack. Still, team leaders used the moment to highlight the progress made during the season and to look positively toward the future.

“As tough as this one is, I know we’ll be back,” McCaffrey added. “We have the right people here. We’ll learn from it and use it to be better.”

With the season concluded, the organization will shift its focus to the offseason, evaluating personnel decisions and preparing for next year. While the finale was disappointing, the team remains optimistic about the direction of the franchise and looks to build on the foundation laid this year.
