6-Pack of Bats Your Fantasy Baseball Roster Needs Now

Butch Dill - USA TODAY Sports

We’re about to enter the final week of the first month of the fantasy baseball season. Stats have accrued. Players have gotten out to hot starts while others are still freezing. Decision time is nearing, so here’s a look at this week’s must-adds to your respective fantasy baseball roster by way of trade or waiver wire.

SS Gleyber Torres (New York Yankees) In case you live under a rock, the Yankees prized infield prospect was called up on Sunday to make his debut. While he failed to deliver in his initial big league bats, chalk it up to nerves. This kid is one of the highest acclaimed prospects in the game, and he could do wonders for your roster at a very thin position. He’s got SS eligibility in most leagues right now, but that should change in short order with him expected to man the keystone while Didi Gregorius continues to light things up. If looking for a high average, on-base type of player, look no further.

1B Brandon Belt (San Francisco Giants)Belt has always had the talent to be one of the best first baseman the fantasy game has to offer. Health has been the only thing that’s prevented him from being selected as a top-five player at the position in fantasy drafts throughout his career. Right now, he’s 100 percent healthy and it’s shown on the playing field. He’s launched a home run in four straight games and has his batting average up to .288. Get him on your roster and ride the hot streak, he’s less than 20 percent owned!

3B Miguel Andujar (New York Yankees) Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez were expected to solidify one of the more fearsome offenses the league had to offer this fantasy baseball season. That simply hasn’t panned out. Instead, the April call-up has picked those big bats up further down the order by batting .308 and knocking in 10 RBI. He’s tallied multi-hit efforts in five of his last six games, and is now batting seventh after hitting in the eight and nine spot previously. If he keeps it up, he could be batting closer to the meat of the order. He’ll cost next to nothing, so take a flier and see what happens.

1B C.J. Cron (Tampa Bay Rays) This kid has shown immense power ever sense he stepped onto a Major League Baseball diamond. However, for one reason or another, Mike Scioscia never gave him a real shot throughout his stay in Anaheim. With Tampa Bay sorely in need of power, Cron has gotten that chance and he’s been making the most of it ever since. He just got done peppering Minnesota’s pitching over the weekend to the tune of four hits (3 HR) and 6 RBI. Though he got out to a slow start, he looks to be coming into his own and will no doubt be a popular fantasy selection on this week’s waiver wire.

OF Michael A. Taylor (Washington Nationals)Taylor showed glimpses a season ago that he has what it takes to be a regular every day starter in the Nats’ outfield. In 399 total at-bats in 2017, the youngster hit 19 home runs, plated 53 RBI and swiped 17 bases. Though Adam Eaton is set to return sometime this week, he’s another injury away from going back on the DL. Let’s face it, he will get hurt. While there’s better options in the outfield for fantasy players in 10 and 12 team leagues, it makes perfect sense to take a flier on Taylor if you’re in a deeper one. He’s coming off a huge game Sunday night in Tinseltown, and could ride that momentum into the next week.

OF David Dahl (Colorado Rockies)With Carlos Gonzalez and his disappointing .235 batting average on the DL due to a nagging hamstring strain, the door is now wide open for Dahl to once again make an impact on a Rockies roster he flourished in a couple years back. This is a kid that dazzled after getting called up back in 2016 when he batted .315 and raked 70 hits in 222 overall at-bats. The Coors factor always makes any Rockies’ stick attractive, but he’s someone to get even more excited about since he’s done it before. Less than 10 percent owned, if Dahl stays healthy and continues raking like he previously did, he could be the waiver wire add that helps win you a fantasy baseball title!

Add To Watch List: Mallex Smith, Kurt Suzuki, Jose Bautista, Matt Kemp, Jeimer Candelario, Ryan Flaherty, Albert Almora Jr.
