Boston College Eagles at Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview

In this Thursday Atlantic Coast game, Boston College is labeled as the favorite and is currently giving up 4 points. The Eagles are also receiving -185 moneyline odds while the Demon Deacons are +165. Should one team can create a bunch of points early, it will likely create a decent live betting opportunity.

The Eagles have gained 0.0 units so far and are 2-0 against the spread (ATS). The team has posted an O/U mark of 2-0. The Demon Deacons are up 1.0 unit for moneyline bettors this season. They’re 0-2 ATS and have an O/U record of 1-1.

The Eagles are 2-0 straight up (SU) and they haven’t faced any ACC competition yet. The Demon Deacons are 2-0 SU overall and are also 0-0 SU in conference play.

When these two teams met a year ago, Wake Forest won handily 34-10.

The Eagles are hoping to stay undefeated following a 62-14 win over Holy Cross last week. The passing game was on point as the Eagles completed 16-of-20 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns. EJ Perry went nine-for-12 for 95 yards and two touchdowns while Matt McDonald completed five-of-six for 107 yards and two touchdowns. David Bailey (80 rushing yards on 11 attempts) led the running attack while Michael Walker (two receptions, 18 yards) and Noah Jordan-Williams (two catches, 70 yards, one TD) handled the receiving duties in the win.

Wake Forest is coming off of a 51-20 win over Towson. Sam Hartman completed 17-of-27 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Cade Carney (130 yards on 19 rush attempts, one TD) and Matt Colburn II (47 yards on 12 carries) spearheaded the running game while Greg Dortch (seven receptions, 94 yards, one TD) and Alex Bachman (four catches, 54 yards, one TD) led the pass-catching corps in the win.

Boston College’s run the ball on 70.4 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Wake Forest has a rush percentage of 55.4 percent. The Eagles have produced 319 rush yards per game and have seven scores on the ground this year. The Deacs are putting up 247 rushing yards per game and have three total rush TDs.

It seems like the Eagles should have the advantage when it comes to effectiveness in the ground game. Their backfield has produced 5.7 yards per carry while the defense is allowing a YPC of 2.5 to opponents. The Demon Deacons have recorded 5.1 yards per carry and given up a YPC of 3.1 to opponents.

The Eagles offense has logged 286 yards/game in the air overall and has eight passing scores so far. The Deacs have put up 310 pass yards per outing and have four total pass TDs.

Boston College appears to have an advantage in both defensive facets. The team has allowed opponents to run for an average of 97 yards and throw for 158 yards per game. The Wake Forest D has allowed 314 yards per game to opposing passers and 109.0 yards per game on the ground. The Eagles are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 1.97 to opposing QBs, while the Deacs have given up a 6.51 ANY/A.

Offensively, Brown is up to 43 passing yards this year. The signal-caller has connected on 100 percent of his 2 attempts with zero scores through the air and has yet to throw an interception. He has a pristine 12.67 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 16.54 over the past two outings.

We expect the Eagles to control the pace by feeding their running backs early and often. Along with Kobay White (26 yards), AJ Dillon (149 rush yards, three rush TDs) and David Bailey (80 rush yards) have delivered in the offensive scheme for Boston College.

On the other sideline, Sam Hartman has connected on 17-of-27 passes for 242 yards, two TDs and one INT. Hartman’s ANY/A sits at 8.78 for the season and 7.13 across his last two games.

The Deacs will also try to dictate the game’s pace by turning to their backfield. In addition to Greg Dortch (94 receiving yards, one receiving TD), Sage Surratt (zero rush yards, 63 receiving yards) and Cade Carney (130 rush yards, one rush TD) have gotten plenty of touches lately.
