LeBron James and the Lakers agree to a two-year contract deal

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement on a two-year, $97.1 million contract deal that will last through the 2024–25 season, his agent revealed on Wednesday. He became the highest-paid player in NBA history thanks to this agreement. The agreement includes a player option that would allow the Lakers to retain the second-highest scorer in NBA history after he turns 40 in December 2024.

The 37-year-old James’ most recent deal with the Lakers, who signed the four-time NBA MVP and four-time league champion in July 2018, is approaching its last year. The 18-time All-Star will receive $46.7 million this season because of the new contract.

If nothing goes wrong, James should pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar this winter as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. If James and Anthony Davis are able to recover from their injuries, the Lakers and James still aim to be in the running for another championship following an injury-plagued 2021–22 season that concluded without a playoff participation.
