According to Gee, the NCAA transfer site will be a significant issue if sanctions are not applied

E. Gordon Gee, the president of West Virginia University, took a strong position against recent NCAA developments on Monday, warning that, if left unchecked, the transfer portal might cause severe issues for collegiate athletics.

Gee stated in an exclusive interview that “We have to apply discipline to it. We have a significant issue if a player can leave because they didn’t like what the coach said to them on Monday.”

According to Gee, modifications made to conference rules in recent years, including those involving the transfer portal and name, image, and likeness (NIL) arrangements, are intended to help student-athletes and increase their possibilities. But he noted that the University needs to have a stronger grip on the procedure.

He explained, “NIL was implemented because we realize the nature of the reality that we shouldn’t be boosting coaches wages and perks for the student-athletes. Gee also noted that WVU’s contribution to the NCAA’s reform is significant.
