Adam Sandler officiated Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden on Friday and played three five-on-five pickup basketball games on Sunday at Backus Lane in Nantucket, Massachusetts, according to ESPN.
Personnel at the Nantucket Police Department’s nonemergency line directed Sandler to the Backus Lane court, which is part of Nantucket Intermediate School, the Nantucket Current reported.
Andrew Kesler, a local resident, and his friends were at the court when Sandler arrived. Kesler told ESPN the group initially joked about the possibility of Sandler showing up and realized it was him as he approached. Sandler told them he would join after stretching.
Kesler described Sandler as “actually pretty good,” telling ESPN the comedian had “elite passing” and did not miss passes in the games. Kesler said Sandler’s layup game was solid and that he appeared to be a “really good playmaker” and “pretty competitive.” After the final game, Sandler remained on the court for a group photo with teammates and opponents, Kesler said, noting the actor was “very friendly” while playing.
Sandler is known for appearing unannounced at local courts in eye-popping outfits. A Los Angeles-based photographer who goes by Xavier Luggage told ESPN in 2024 that Sandler “just got the OG game like he’s been playing forever.” A pickup player named Joshua Jackson said a pass he received from Sandler in 2019 remained “still the best pass that I’ve ever received in my life,” according to ESPN.
The weekend combined a high-profile role in a widely covered wedding with an informal pickup basketball outing on Nantucket Island.
