ADCC 2017 Odds – Under 99KG Tournament

ADCC 2017 Odds

ADCC 2017 Odds – Under 99KG Tournament – Helsinki, Finland hosts the ADCC 2017 the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of September and BETDSI has odds for all the tournaments.

The number one seed in this year’s under 99KG weight class (under 217 pounds) is Yuri Simoes, who won the 2015 tournament in the under 88KG class. Simoes is returning at +350, as is fellow Brazilian Joao Assis, who owns a third-place finish in 2015. Neither Rodolfo Vieira nor Felipe Pena, the 2015 competition’s first and second place finishers, are back in this year’s field. This opens up the field for a new winner in 2017.

Our veteran watch at ADCC 2017 finds American Dean Lister and Jake Shields among the top four seeds in this year’s competition.

Fourteen years ago, Dean Lister wrote a little page of grappling history at the ADCC 2003 competition when he broke through and won the open weight “Absolute” tournament. Lister had advanced to the second round of the under 99KG tourney that year with a win over future UFC fighter Ilir Latifi, but he lost his second round match-up with Alexandre Ribeiro.

The 2003 Absolute tournament was one of the most stacked fields of all-time. Lister defeated future UFC fighter Nathan Marquardt in round one and then advanced with a win over ADCC top gun Saulo Ribeiro, the brother of Alexandre. He then defeated Marcio Cruz and Alexandre Ferreira to earn the $50,000 prize money and a place in ADCC history. What he has left fourteen years later remains to be seen though Lister has always been ready for competition throughout the years.

The appearance of Jake Shields is interesting as the well-respected fighter has seen his MMA career start to wind down. Shields was always known as a grappling oriented MMA fighter, but it would be a big surprise if his game is as sharp as some of the specialists he will meet in the tournament if he advances.

Another veteran with loads of ADCC experience is Raphael Lovato Jr, who is paying at +1500. Lovato Jr finished in second place back in 2013 and he has been competing strictly in grappling his whole career. Doing well in ADCC means enough for one’s resume that we could see a highly motivated Lovato Jr in Helsinki. If that is the case the oddsmakers may be off on this one, perhaps switching Shields and Lovato Jr’s numbers would be more accurate.

Below are the odds for the current tournament bracket as they stand at BETDSI.  Check back frequently for changes.
