Alabama Grabs Kobie Eubanks

The state of Alabama surely puts out its fair share of Division I basketball prospects, but there’s never been any doubt that for the Crimson Tide to experience long term success on the hard wood, they’d need to recruit Florida effectively.

Once Kobie Eubanks made the call for ‘Bama last week, new head coach Avery Johnson made it clear that he understands this and that his staff will certainly be on to watch on the recruiting trail.

Once a Baylor commit, Eubanks was one of the best remaining players in the class of 2015, and will serve as the centerpiece of a class that Johnson hopes will speed up the turnaround needed at UA.

More than anything though, this shows fans of the program that Johnson is willing to mix it up in the, often, slimy world of prep school recruiting, where the amount of white noise that needs to be suffered through would make even a Coheed and Cambria fan jealous. There are runners, over zealous prep coaches, and other hanger-ons that make recruiting those players not worth the trouble, at times.

With Johnson’s dynamic personality, he showed that he could sift through that noise and land a key prospect for his system.

On the court, Eubanks is a crafty shooting guard with the ability to put the ball in the hole from all three levels. While his explosion off the dribble isn’t what some of the other elite SGs in his class show off, he’s got the ability to make plays for himself and others, if needed. For a program that has lacked serious perimeter talent in some time, he should be a welcome addition.
