Alabama State triumphs in the 2022 HBCU Tennis Championship

The HBCU national tennis championship of 2022 was won by Alabama State’s men’s tennis team. The female champion was Xavier University of Louisiana (NAIA). The men’s team score for Alabama State was 30, surpassing Tennessee State’s 19 points for second place. Regardless of gender, it’s the first HBCU tennis national championship in Hornet history.

With a score of 25, the women’s tennis team from Louisiana’s Xavier University won the national championship for the second year in a row. North Carolina Central, a Division I school, came in second place with 22.5 points. Without including the 2020 championships, Xavier University of Louisiana has already claimed three of the previous four women’s HBCU tennis titles. The championships took place from September 15–17 at the South Fulton Tennis Center, and a total of 25 HBCU tennis programs (10 men’s and 15 women’s) competed. The official HBCU website has a list of the individual champions.
