The American League asserted its dominance over the National League once again with a 4-3 win in the 2019 All-Star Game. It was the eighth straight win for the AL, and they have now won 19 of the last 23 All-Star Games overall.

The night started off with a touching gesture as both Mike Trout and Tommy La Stella wore Tyler Skaggs’ No. 45 for the All-Star Game. Skaggs tragically passed away eight days ago, and his death rocked the Los Angeles Angels and the baseball world as a whole. There was a tribute in his honor before the first pitch as well, honoring his life and memory.

It didn’t take too long for the AL to strike first, with former Cleveland Indians infielder Michael Brantley doubling into the gap and putting them up 1-0 in the second inning. That got the crowd roaring after they cheered him vigorously when the lineups were announced.

The AL made the lead 2-0 in the fifth inning, but a Charlie Blackmon home run cut the lead in half in the top of the sixth, giving the NL some hope that it could break the losing streak.

The AL responded in the seventh inning with a Joey Gallo long ball, and a run scored earlier in the inning made the score 4-1.

The NL tried to rally and lit up Brad Hand for two runs in a tense eighth inning before Aroldis Chapman slammed the door shut by striking out the side in the ninth inning to pick up the save.

It was a mostly fun night, but the scoreboard operator in Cleveland had a rough evening. Whoever was in charge misspelled the names of three different players, all of whom play in the NL.

At the end of the night, Indians pitcher Shane Bieber was named All-Star Game MVP and picked up quite the haul and something to cart off the haul in.
