America’s Got Talent: 8/7 Recap

Seven out of the 18 acts in this episode of America’s Got Talent get to go through to the next week and it’s going to be hard to choose as the spots are filling up fast. Spoiler alert that the acts who got through are listed at the end of this article.

Starting off the show is Brian King Joseph who plays electric violin. Brian’s story is amazing because he has peripheral neuropathy and can’t even feel his hands. Wow. Breathtaking. I love this kid’s talents.

Yumbo Dump – They are funny, but I’m not interested in having them win a million dollars for this ridiculous act. Howie seems to love it, but Mel B X’d them. I agree with Mel.

Academy of Villains – This popular online group is X’d by Simon almost immediately. Mel loved them and said that she would take her kids to a show like this. We’ll have to see if they get through.

Da Republik – This dance troop lost their founding member last year. I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing so many dance groups on the show that they are all starting to look alike. I don’t see anything special about them, but they are good. All the judges, except Howie, gave them a standing ovation, but Howie does call them “the real deal.” Chris Harwick called it “stunning.”

Thirteen-year-old singer Berlin was told by Heidi that she definitely improved, and Simon said she did great. Acrobats Sergey and Sasha – a father-daughter duo – are back to give Simon “more danger.” Wow – he walked across a bridge with his daughter upside down on his head. Chris called it “one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen.”

After the commercial break, we see more acts including Flau’jae, a 14-year-old rapper, who sang about gun violence in her first audition. This week, she raps, “I Can’t Lose.” I like her, she’s a great inspiration and gets a standing ovation from everyone. Howie calls her a star. Chris Harwick gives her the Golden Buzzer!

Six spots are left.

Okay, this next act is an interesting one. Elijah Holt is a 26-year-old trampoline performer with, um, a blow up zebra doll. His tricks are fun, but a million dollar act? Unless he brings in other props, I’m bored.

Quick change artists Sixto and Lucia are up next and I love change artists because it amazes me, especially when she adds necklaces. I wish they would just stick to her because his are a little more awkward.

Brody Ray, a singer, has a great voice but Simon said he didn’t like that song. The other judges agree. Ronnie Lamarque also seemed to struggle a bit with his song. The next singer up, Glennis Grace, is someone who could have given Whitney Houston a run for her money. She’s phenomenal, but I’m not a fan of the song (Nothing Compares to You).

Diabolowalker is definitely entertaining and, in the short snippet of what I saw, it was great. Simon said parts were great and parts were boring. Troy James, the human spider, creeped me out. He should really be in Cirque DeSoleil. He called up Chris Harwick on stage and honestly I don’t see this as a million dollar act.

Street Drum Corps is buzzed by Simon. Nunnabove performed and Simon said that it didn’t sound like a wedding band, but they need to do more. An escape artist working with alligators escapes before he’s fed to them, literally.

Leaving us on a high note is comedian Samuel Comroe who has Tourette’s Syndrome. I like this guy and really want him to go far.

So who made it through to the live shows? Here are the six other finalists:
Da Republik
Brian King Joseph
The escape artist
Glennis Grace
Samuel Comroe
Yumbo Dump
