Angels News: Team Allegedly Knew About Tyler Skaggs’ Drug Use

More information has come out surrounding Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs’ tragic death on July 1, according to ESPN’s TJ Quinn. A public relations employee for the Angels told federal investigators that he got oxycodone for Skaggs and took the drug with him, and also that team officials were aware of Skaggs’ drug use “long before” his death.

The DEA was also given names of five former Angels players by director of communications Eric Kay. He believes the players he named also used opiates while with the team. The DEA has been investigating Skaggs’ death, primarily the source of the fentanyl found in his system, since Sept. 18.

Quinn reported that Kay gave Skaggs three oxycodone pills a day or two before the Angels left for their road trip to Texas, and that the late pitcher asked him for more on the day of the road trip. Skaggs also texted Kay just hours before his death, inviting him to his hotel room and snorted three lines of crushed opiods in front of him, per Quinn.

There is a lot more events in Quinn’s story, and it makes the 27-year-old’s death even more tragic than it originally was. Perhaps even more upsetting however, is the Angels organization’s negligence in the whole situation if the allegations in Quinn’s report are true. It may be quite a while until the whole truth comes out, but this latest revelation is certainly disturbing.
