Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets Betting Preview 05/18/18

The New York Mets are playing host to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citi Field. This NL matchup will get underway at 7:10 p.m. ET and Fox Sports Arizona is in line to broadcast the game.

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Mets Odds

Oddsmakers are listing New York (-155) as the favorite over Arizona (+145). The total sits at seven runs and bettors can wager on the over for -115 and the under for -105. Bettors can also wager on the game’s runline with the odds standing at Diamondbacks +1.5 runs (-150) and Mets +-1.5 runs (+130).

The Diamondbacks have gone 25-18 SU this year and are 21-22 against the spread (ATS). They’ve gained 8.8 units for moneyline gamblers in this young season, despite having lost 1.2 units ATS. Arizona has covered the spread only once over its last seven games and the under has hit in four of those seven. The Mets, on the other hand, are 20-19 SU and 17-22 ATS. The Mets are turning to righty Jacob deGrom (3-0, 1.83 ERA), who has 56 punchouts and 14 walks as well as a 1.04 WHIP. deGrom did not record a start against the Diamondbacks in 2017.

New York’s pitching staff has given up 4.6 runs per game overall this season as a unit. Its starting pitching staff has an ERA of 4.51, a WHIP of 1.36 and a strikeouts-per-nine of 9.5. The bullpen has a 4.03 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 8.9 K/9.

The New York offense has produced 4.3 runs per contest, including 3.7 per game over its last 10 games and 3.8 per game over its last five. The team has a slash-line of .257/.306/.421 over its last five contests and is 2-3 SU during that span.

The Mets’ batters have been led by second baseman Asdrubal Cabrera and outfielder Brandon Nimmo. Cabrera is slashing .320/.366/.540 with six home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored, while Nimmo is hitting .267 with 16 hits, five RBIs and 13 runs.

Cabrera seemed to take a step back when hitting at home in 2017, slashing .245/.315/.366 over 241 plate appearances (compared to his total season line of .280/.351/.434).

In the visiting dugout, Arizona’s pitchers have allowed 3.5 runs per game and its starters own a 3.87 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 9.48 K/9. The bullpen has logged an excellent ERA of just 2.42, along with a K/9 of 8.15.

Diamondbacks hitters have slashed .220/.302/.380 on their way to 4.0 runs scored per game this year, including 2.7 runs per game over the team’s last 10 games and 2.2 per game over the team’s last five outings (1-4 SU).

Arizona’s offensive production been led by outfielders A.J. Pollock and David Peralta, who collectively have launched 18 home runs. Pollock is slashing .293/.349/.620 with 11 home runs, 33 RBIs, 23 runs and nine stolen bases, while Peralta (.279/.359/.483) is up to seven homers, 21 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

The Diamondbacks have gained 0.2 units and are 11-15 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher this year. The over has hit in 12 of those games, compared to 14 that’ve gone under against righties. On the other hand, the Mets have lost 0.8 units and are 11-17 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher. The over’s hit in 14 of those games, as opposed to 13 that’ve cashed the under.
