Auburn vs Ole Miss Preview and Prediction

Auburn takes on Ole Miss on Saturday, October 29th in Oxford.

The Auburn Tigers claw their way into Oxford, Mississippi to play the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, October 29th at 7:15 p.m. ET on the SEC Network. The Auburn tigers come into this match-up as a -4 point favorite and the over/under now rests at 66.

Last week, Auburn absolutely crushed Arkansas 56-3, scoring on the first offensive play and never looking back. The Tigers rushed for 543 yards on 57 attempts while the defense shut down the Razorbacks by holding them to just 215 total yards.

On the other side of the ball, Ole Miss’s up and down season continued in a 38-21 loss to LSU in Baton Rouge. The Rebels could not stop LSU’s  tail back Leonard Fournette, who gashed them for 284 rushing yards and three touchdowns.

Auburn (5-2):

The Tiger’s offense is humming right now, which makes this Auburn team extremely scary. The Tigers are #3 in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 302.86 yards per contest over the ground.

Leading from under center is quarterback Sean White. So far this season, White has totaled over 1,500 through the air on 113 completions. The signal-caller also has eight touchdowns and only two interceptions. His improvements in the passing game have been a nice compliment to their rushing attack.

The Tigers love to run the pigskin, and they have two capable backs that handle those responsibilities. Together, they have amassed over 1,100 yards on over 130 carries and 11 touchdowns. Replacement Kamryn Pettway leads this unit with 148 carries for 933 yards and seven scores.

Wide receivers Tony Stevens and Kyle Davis, move the chains for the Tigers through the air. As a twosome, they have reeled in 45 catches for almost 600 yards and four scores. Both wide outs have gaudy yards per catch numbers because of their success with the play-action pass.

The Auburn defense has been a rock all season long. Auburn now looks to pressure standout chad Kelly. The defensive front, including stud Carl Lawson, has been dominating opposing offensive lines. The tigers rank 26th in the nation against the run and 73rd against the pass.

Ole Miss (3-4):

This year hasn’t gone the way head coach Hugh Freeze and the Rebels expected. Quarterback Chad Kelly has been steady at quarterback, but seven interceptions have been a problem. All told, the senior has over 2,100 yards on 156 completions with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

The rushing game hasn’t held up it’s end of the bargain. Ole Miss is running for just 150.14 yards per game. If the Rebels want to start winning again, the rushing attack must get better. As of now, they have totaled over 950 yards on 178 attempts and reached pay dirt 12 times.

The strength of the Ole Miss offense resides at the wide out position. Three amazing athletes catch Chad Kelly’s balls. As a unit, they have amassed well over 100 catches for over 1,600 yards and 14 scores.

The Ole Miss defense will have its hands full against the Auburn run game. That’s because the Rebels are ranked 113th in the nation against the run, allowing 226 yards a contest. Ole Miss has to force Auburn quarterback Sean White to pass to beat the them, otherwise it could be another long day.

Trends and Notes:

The Rebels are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games following a ATS loss.

The  Tigers are 3-0 ATS in their last 4 conference games.

The Under is 7-1 in the Tigers last 9 conference games.

The Under is 7-3 in the Rebels last 10 games following a ATS loss.

Game Prediction:

The Auburn tigers have righted the ship since starting the season 1-2 and looking like they were going to reside at the bottom of the SEC South. Fortunately, the Tigers got their potent running attack going and kept playing solid defense.

Ole Miss let a few big games slip away on them this year, and now they are regreting it. those victories would have been nice considering they are in the midst of a two game losing streak heading into this match-up.

Even though the Tigers play well against the run, their secondary still struggles to stop opposing quarterbacks. Chad Kelly at home, has the skill to find plenty of yards and points if he gets the time he needs.

Ole Miss can’t stop the run. That is a huge problem now that Auburn is jelled in that department. Put those two scenarios together, and you have the making of a shoot-out on Saturday. Get More sports says take the over 65.5 and enjoy the offensive display.
