Barcelona can secure the LaLiga title with a draw in Sunday’s Clásico at Camp Nou, according to ESPN, with the match airing live at 3 p.m. ET across ESPN networks in the U.S. The report says Barça enter the game 11 points clear with four matches remaining, meaning a single point would confirm the championship against their biggest rivals.

Real Madrid’s season has been described in the report as calamitous. Per the report, the club has lost coach Xabi Alonso, been eliminated from the Copa del Rey, exited the UEFA Champions League in the quarterfinals and endured a run of LaLiga defeats that has left them trailing Barcelona and facing a trophyless season for a second consecutive year.

The report adds that Madrid have also been rocked by a string of off-field incidents in the last week. It says an injured Kylian Mbappé took a mid-season holiday, details emerged of a dressing-room bust-up between Antonio Rüdiger and Álvaro Carreras, and vice-captain Federico Valverde was taken to hospital with concussion after a confrontation with Aurélien Tchouaméni.

ESPN’s piece places this moment in the context of recent seasons in which Clásicos have been decisive. The report notes that Barcelona’s title last season, in Hansi Flick’s first campaign, was helped by winning both league Clásicos — a 4-0 win at the Bernabéu and a 4-3 victory at Montjuïc — and that those results helped them finish four points ahead of Madrid. It also recalls that Carlo Ancelotti’s Madrid had previously benefited from a Clásico double in the campaign that left them 10 points clear of Barça.

The report points to other examples of how Clásicos have reshaped campaigns and club projects, citing matches that preceded managerial departures in past seasons. Per the report, Sunday’s game gives Barcelona the chance to clinch the title in the most high-profile fixture in club football, while any celebrations at Camp Nou would be particularly acute for a Madrid side already beset by on- and off-field problems.
