Baseball Betting: Most Profitable Teams So Far

baseball-betting

The first two months of the 2017 MLB season are almost complete. That means we have a pretty good sample size to work with when analyzing this season’s early results. While a number of teams have disappointed, there are also a handful of teams that have exceeded expectations. Those are the teams that have made bettors the most money in 2017. Here is a look at the five most profitable teams in terms of MLB betting so far this season.

Colorado Rockies (31-17)

Baseball Betting Money: +1707

Who would have thought the Rockies would have the best record in the National League through 38 games? At 31-17, Colorado is two games up on the Arizona Diamondbacks for top spot in the National League West. The Rockies have produced the second-most runs in the majors this season. However, their success has been about more than just offense. While their pitching numbers aren’t elite, the Colorado staff has produced a relatively decent 4.20 ERA and ranks in the top-11 in both WHIP and BAA this season. The Rockies have the depth to be a serious contender in the NL this season. Colorado has already been the most profitable team in the majors through the first two months of the year.

Arizona Diamondbacks (30-19)

Baseball Betting Money: +1112

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have been the powerhouses in the NL West over the past few years. So while the Rockies have surprised with the best record in the division this season it’s almost equally surprising how good Arizona has been. The Diamondbacks sit second in the NL West at 29-19. They are the third of three teams that have topped the 1,000 mark in terms of profitability on the money line. No team has been more balanced than Arizona this season as they rank third in runs scored on offense and fourth in terms of the ERA of their pitching staff. The Diamondbacks have been especially dominant at home where they have 21 wins, which is four more than the second-highest home total in the majors this season.

Houston Astros (31-16)

Baseball Betting Money: +1015

Houston owns the best record in baseball through May 25th so it should be no surprise they are right there near the top of this list. After a disappointing 2016 campaign, the Astros have bounced back thanks to their consistency on both sides of the ball. Houston’s pitching staff owns the third-best ERA in the majors, led by Dallas Keuchel and his 1.84 ERA this season. Meanwhile, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and the surprising Marwin Gonzalez have led an offense that ranks in the top-10 in runs scored. The Astros are clicking at a very high level right now and they have been one of the most profitable teams in baseball so far this season.

Milwaukee Brewers (25-21)

Baseball Betting Money: +894

The Brewers have been another surprise with the best record in the National League Central. Many thought that the defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs would run away with the division. While it’s still early, the fact that Milwaukee sits atop the NL Central is a major surprise. The fact that the Brewers have exceeded all expectations is a big reason why they are so high on this list. Eric Thames has been an excellent addition to an offense that ranks in the top-five in runs scored and has carried this club for the most part this season. The big concern for Milwaukee is a pitching staff that ranks in the bottom third of the majors in ERA. If the Brewers don’t shore up their pitching, a correction could be coming in terms of their market profitability.

New York Yankees (27-17)

Baseball Betting Money: +791

The Yankees youth movement has led them to the second-best record in the AL through 44 games. Aaron Judge has led the way with 15 home runs and 30 RBI but he hasn’t had to do it alone either. Starlin Castro, Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner have all been solid as well for an offense that has produced the fourth-most runs in the majors this season. Even the pitching staff in New York has overachieved early on this year as they have produced a 3.82 ERA as well as the second-best BAA in the majors with a .232 mark. The Yankees have been one of the biggest surprises in baseball early on this season. Those that were willing to take a chance on them in the first couple of months will have made a decent profit backing the pinstripes on the money line so far.
