Baseball Predictions:  The New York Mets are expected to have Jon Niese on the mound on Friday as they host the Texas Rangers. Niese has been really good all season so the Mets should have the pitching edge as the Texas Rangers are expected to go with Colby Lewis. Let’s look at the match-up and baseball predictions.

Probable Pitchers

Colby Lewis has an ERA of 5.94 this season.  Lewis has not pitched well for most of the season but he is still coming back from injury and he is not that concerned about his numbers. “I’ve never been a numbers guy,” Lewis said. “I base things solely at the end of the year. I feel like if you get too caught up in numbers then you try to do much. It’s been a process kind of relearning things and ironing things out as the first couple months roll on.” Lewis is 5-5 on the season and he has been improving even though his ERA doesn’t indicate as much.

Niese has been solid all season long as he simply doesn’t give up many runs. In fact, he has allowed three runs or less in 20 straight starts. He is one away from the New York Mets record which is held by Johan Santana.  Niese is 5-4 on the season with a 2.88 ERA.  When Niese goes to the mound you pretty much know what you are going to get as he goes 6 or 7 innings and allows 2 or 3 runs.

Game Notes

These teams do not meet that often and they have not faced each other since 2011.  The New York Mets have won six of the nine all-time meetings with two of the last three going over. The teams have only played one previous series in New York and it was the New York Mets winning two of three back in 2008.

Baseball Predictions

The pitching edge is definitely with the Mets so I will look for the home team to win this game on Friday night.
