Baseball Betting:  Stephen Strasburg and the Washington Nationals visit Chris Young and the Seattle Mariners on Saturday night. This contest matches up the best team in the National League in the Nationals against a Seattle team that could end up as a Wild Card team in the American League.

Let’s look at the matchup and baseball predictions.

Probable Pitchers – Strasburg vs. Young

Stephen Strasburg continues to be overvalued in terms of baseball betting. He is just an average pitcher.  He is 10-10 on the season with a 3.59 ERA.  He was shelled last time out as he allowed five runs and eight hits in four innings against the Giants. His troubles are almost always in the first couple of innings. If he makes it past the early innings he can pitch well.  But the Nationals are almost always favored when he is on the mound and he doesn’t win enough games to make the Nationals worth taking when he is pitching.

Chris Young has been really strong this season for the Mariners. He is 12-6 with a 3.17 ERA this season.  He didn’t pitch well last time out as the Red Sox got to him but that was a rare bad outing. He has been excellent at home this season with an 8-3 record and a 2.35 ERA.  He is also 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA in his career against the Nationals.

Series Notes

These teams don’t play that often but the Nationals have done well when they do meet. They had won 9 of the last 10 before this series began.  They had not met in Seattle since 2008 before this series started.  The Nationals had taken 5 of the 9 all-time meetings in Seattle with five of the last seven going under.

Baseball Predictions

This is a good spot to make a couple of plays as the Mariners have the pitching edge with Young against Strasburg and it should be a low scoring contest.  We’ll look for Seattle and the under to come though in this game on Saturday night.
