Ben Stiller is leading a documentary about the New York Knicks in partnership with HBO and A24, the actor confirmed on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s “Roommates Show” podcast. Stiller, a well-known Knicks superfan who posts frequently on X, said he recorded portions of the team’s postseason run from courtside on his iPhone for the project.
Stiller told the podcast the film will not be limited to the most recent championship. “It’s kind of going to be about all eras of the Knicks,” he said, adding that the project will examine the organization more broadly rather than focusing exclusively on one season.
He referenced several high points in franchise history as part of the documentary’s subject matter, citing the 1970s championships, the deep runs of the 1990s and the current team’s achievements during the recent postseason run.
The documentary is planned as a multipart series, though Stiller said the number of episodes has not been determined. Production had only been started “a little bit before the playoff run,” he said, and additional work is expected over the next year, meaning the release is not imminent.
Stiller described the undertaking as a dream project and said he was enthusiastic about leading it. The podcast announcement was first posted to social media on Wednesday night.
