The Best Bets For The 2018 Trophee Hassan II

Pablo Larrazabal

The European Tour will shift from Spain to Morocco and the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam golf course for this week’s Trophee Hassan II. While it isn’t exactly the most prestigious tournament, there will be plenty of familiar faces with Paul Dunne, George Coetzee, Joost Luiten and Thomas Pieters leading the cast of sports betting favorites to win this week. Meanwhile, Edoardo Molinari returns to defend his title after winning here last year, which is something that no golfer has managed to do since Rhys Davies won the first edition of this tournament back in 2010. Event Details

Event: Trophee Hassan II

Category: European

Date: April 19th-22nd

Location: Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, Rabat, Morocco

It will be interesting to see how this tournament plays out after the Centro Nacional de Golf didn’t seem to offer much of a challenge to the top contenders in Spain last week. 39 players shot 10-under or better last week. That likely won’t be the case this week in Morocco where the last two winners haven’t finished better than nine-under.

Past Five Winners

2017: Edoardo Molinari -9

2016: Wang Jeung-hun -5

2015: Richie Ramsay -10

2014: Alejandro Canizares -19

2013: Marcel Siem -17

What To Know About The Course

Driving Distance will be a key statistic to keep in mind this week as the big hitters should fare well at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam course. There is rain in the forecast so it will be interesting to see if the weather actually favors the big hitters. Greens In Regulation is another key statistic to keep in mind when evaluating the field for this week’s tournament. The last two champions of this event look very different but the one thing they have in common is their ability to handle the conditions with the weather set to be a key factor once again.

The Field

Dunne will be the sports betting favorite when he tees off in Morocco this week at +1200 odds to win this tournament outright. Coetzee and Luiten are next in line with both golfers listed at +1800 odds to win, followed by Thomas Pieters at +2000 odds. Alexander Levy, Andy Sullivan and Pablo Larrazabal round out the list of sports betting favorites with all three of those golfers listed at +2200 odds to win the Trophee Hassan II. Meanwhile, the defending champion Molinari is considered a long shot to repeat in Monaco this year as he is listed at +10000 odds to win.

A Good Matchup To Bet: Pablo Larrazabal over Andy Sullivan

While Sullivan isn’t a terrible pick this week, it makes sense to take advantage of the value betting Larrazabal to deliver a better performance than him at the Trophee Hassan II. Larrazabal has an excellent record in Monaco and should be due for an even better finish than last year when a rough final round left him in a tie for 13th. After showing flashes of brilliance throughout this season it is worth backing the four-time European Tour winner Larrazabal in the head-to-head sports betting matchup with Sullivan in Morroco this week.

Top-Five Pick: Julien Guerrier

Guerrier is a very intriguing sports betting option to pick in the top-five this week for a number of reasons. First of all, Guerrier is a legitimate sleeper pick at +8000 to win the tournament. Second, Guerrier has experience in this tournament and after finishing 56th here last year he should be primed for a major step forward. The 32-year-old registered a top-10 finish at the Rocco Forte Open and he should be in the mix once again this week. At such a solid price, it might be worth taking a chance on Guerrier to place in the top-five at the Trophee Hassan II this week.
