The Best Fits The Top Four Quarterback Recruits In The 2017 Class

No position in football is more important than quarterback. That fact is illustrated on an annual basis at every level. It’s no surprise that the top young passers in the country are recruited as heavily as they are every year with scholarship offers as underclassmen and announcements on where they would like to go even before their senior season. The 2017 class of quarterback recruits is no different, but there are still a number of players that have yet to commit. Here is a look at the best fits for the top four quarterbacks that have yet to make a decision on where they will play their college football.

Tua Tagovailoa (4-Star QB)

Honolulu, Hawaii

Tagovailoa has emerged as a star out of the same high school that Marcus Mariota played at. Unlike Mariota however, Tagovailoa is a well-known commodity in his class. He received offers from USC, UCLA, Ole Miss, Arizona State and Nebraska before his junior season was over with Texas A&M and Alabama joining the mix shortly after that. The Crimson Tide have identified Taovailoa has a key piece in their future and presented him with a scholarship when he visited Tuscaloosa on a recent trip. Alabama has never been known for elite quarterbacks, but they clearly have pushed hard in order to get him on their roster. So where is the best fit? The SEC is undoubtedly the top conference in the country and Alabama has been the best team, but Tagovailoa might have a better chance to success on the west coast. He could follow in the footsteps of Mariota and play in the Pac-12 where there is an even greater emphasis on the passing game. USC has been looking for the next player to join a long line of elite passers that have played for the Trojans over the years and they could be the best fit as a west coast team loaded with elite prospects where Tagovailoa won’t have to deal with the punishing defenses that reside in the SEC.

Best Fit: USC

Davis Mills (4-Star QB)

Norcross, Georgia

The No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class has made a name for himself at the Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross, Georgia and he has been heavily recruited ahead of his senior year. Georgia and Stanford have been the most involved with Mills,, but it’s hard to imagine him signing with the Bulldogs now that 4-star quarterback Jake Fromm is already committed from that class. The Cardinal is looks like the best option out of the Pac-12 on paper while UCLA, Wisconsin, Cal and Louisville have all shown an interest. Mills has the potential to become a star at the college level and he should thrive as a starter at Stanford down the line.

Best Fit: Stanford

Jake Bentley (4-Star QB)

Opelika, Alabama

The No. 6 pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class appeared like a lock to commit to stay in state and join his father at Auburn until his dad left the Tigers’ staff and joined Will Muschamp at South Carolina. That could easily put the Gamecocks in the mix to land Bentley, along with the other top schools that have recruited him in Georgia, Miami and Stanford. The Hurricanes are an intriguing option, but if Bentley’s preference is to go to an SEC school then that could rule them out of the equation. In an interesting twist, Alabama made an offer to Bentley after missing out on Fromm and it wouldn’t be a major shock if he accepted. Bentley’s father is on the South Carolina staff, but the Crimson Tide have a lot more to offer him in terms of progressing his skill set, chasing conference and national titles, as well as developing in to a top pick in the NFL Draft so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Tide swooped in and found a way to get him to commit after this season.

Best Fit: Stanford

Lowell Narcisse (4-Star QB)

Saint James, Louisiana

The No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the 2017 class committed to Auburn last summer, but reopened things in January when he decided he wanted to create the opportunity for other teams to bid for his services. Narcisse missed the entire 2015 regular season because of a torn ACL, but he returned just in time to lead St. James high school in Louisiana on a deep playoff run. That stretch eliminated any concerns about Narcisse’s knee as he showed off his mobility and ability to make plays with his legs as well as with his arms. That elite blend of athleticism and passing could be enough to make him an immediate starter at the college level. Auburn is still in the mix to land Narcisse as their next quarterback, but LSU has a strong bid as well, especially if he wants to stay in state. The Tigers need to solidify the position with a potential star and they should push hard in order to try to land Narcisse as their No. 1 moving forward.

Best Fit: LSU
