Best Teaser Pick for Week 12 – NCAA Betting Odds

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

For the first time since Week 5, I have a winning record on my college football teaser plays this year. I’m over the moon after overcoming a three-week losing streak in the middle of the college football season, and now I’m out to finish the year with a bang. Penn State had little trouble covering the teaser number last week, while Kansas State overcame a bad start to just squeak by Kansas in the Sunflower Showdown. I’ve picked a winning teaser in three of the last four weeks, and I’m out to make it four of five. Here’s the best teaser pick for Week 12.

Week 5 Teaser: Loser

Week 6 Teaser: Loser

Colorado +14 vs. Utah

Notre Dame -3.5 vs. Syracuse

Normally, I wouldn’t back a school with so much uncertainty regarding their head coach, but this is a great time to back Colorado. The Buffaloes are finally starting to get healthy on the offensive side of the ball for the first time since their 5-0 start. Their current five-game losing streak can largely be blamed on the injuries they have suffered, but star wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr. is finally healthy again, and Travon McMillan is running well too.

Injuries have hit their opponent this week rather hard. Utah is in the driver’s seat in the PAC 12 South, but the Utes will not have their starting backfield for the remainder of the season. Quarterback Tyler Huntley suffered a broken collarbone in a loss to Arizona State two weeks ago, and a few days later it was announced that star running back Zack Moss would be sidelined the rest of the year due to a knee injury.

Losing two players in such rapid succession is tough on a program, and although the Utes overcame those losses to beat Oregon last week, Colorado has a much better defense and they will be playing in Boulder and not Salt Lake City. The Buffs will have all of their major offensive weapons back, and there is a great chance they pull off the upset.

For the other leg of my teaser, I’m going to take Notre Dame laying 3.5 against Syracuse. The Irish’s odds have slowly risen over the course of the week, opening as a nine-point favorite and creeping up to become a 10.5-point favorite as of Wednesday morning.

The Irish have been one of the top offenses in the country under Ian Book. Brian Kelly’s decision to replace Brandon Wimbush with Book has paid huge dividends, as Book has made this offense incredibly dangerous. He was banged up and missed last week’s game against Florida State last week, but he is listed as probable and all indications are he is ready to go against Syracuse.

As for the Orange, they are having a great season, but they just aren’t that good. They are barely inside of the top 40 in the latest S&P+ rankings, and the defense has had a hard time stopping decent offenses. Notre Dame should be able to beat them along both lines, and that will make it difficult for them to get stops or move the ball.
