Blind Auditions Continue on “The Voice,” but Blake Struggles

The Voice

The Season 14 blind auditions of NBC’s The Voice continued tonight and, so far, Alicia Keyes, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have two singers on their respective teams, while Kelly Clarkson has three.

Both Alicia and Blake have used their blocks, the new obstacle in this year’s competition. Did Kelly or Adam use theirs tonight? Let’s check out tonight’s contestants:

Davison, 23, Little Rock, Arkansas: The musician calls himself a little bit of gospel with a little bit of soul, R&B and ‘grit.’ He sang  “To Love Somebody,” and has a great sound – what Blake calls “vintage” — to his voice without overpowering it. Both Adam and Blake hit their buttons at the same time to turn around. Both Kelly and Alicia seem to get caught up in listening to his voice and forget to turn around – they admit their mistakes. Adam boldly says that he thinks Davison can win The Voice. Blake calls him “the centerpiece” of the team – how would you feel if you were the other teammates? Davison picks Adam.

Jaclyn Lovey, 16, from Placerville, California: The bubbly teen once sat on The Voice chair at an amusement park, never dreaming she would actually be on the real thing. Lovey inspired by Billie Holiday, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams. She sang a beautiful rendition of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” by Elvis Presley. Blake and Alicia hit their buttons. “Nobody in the world sounds like you,” said Blake. Jaclyn picks Alicia.

Sophia Dion, 17, Parks City, Utah: Sophia doesn’t have an introductory video. Sings “What a Man.” Unfortunately, no one turns. The Voice then continues with a montage of others who didn’t make it through, including Brittney Spencer with “Road Less Traveled,” Karianne Jean “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” and Wildee Fusaro, “Legends.”

Molly Stevens, 34, Raleigh, North Carolina: Talks about her coming out to her Baptist parents and how they’ve come a long way in their relationship. Moved to Nashville about eight years ago and hopes to get her big break now. Sings “Heavenly Day” – Blake, not wanting to be blocked, hits his button immediately, followed by Kelly. She has a great raspy, old-school vibe to her. Molly picks Kelly.

Blake is having a rough time getting singers on his team.

Dylan Hartigan, 21, Wyckoff, New Jersey: Talks about his background in acting and singing in a boy band. Sings “Danny’s Song.” Lots of runs and Kelly Clarkson keeps calling his singing ‘pretty,’ but with almost no time left, she is the only judge who hits her button. Dylan is Team Kelly.

The last contestant of the night is Pryor Baird, 35, Nashville, Tennessee. Baird started touring at 15 years old and in March 2010 drove to Nashville, Tennessee where he is still working as a project manager for a home restoration company. Yeah, that’s what he really wants to do. He sings “I Don’t Need No Doctor.” Seems ridiculously comfortable on that stage. Adam turns around almost immediately. Alicia and Blake turn around too. Kelly isn’t that far behind. It’s a four-way battle for the last contestant of the night! The audience gives him a standing ovation. Pryor picks Blake.

My favorite of the night was Jaclyn Lovey.

Blake finally gets a singer on his team tonight and no blocks are used.
