The Blues Get to Play Gloria, Chara Uncertain for Game 5, and More

The St. Louis Blues kept their Stanley Cup dreams alive with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night. For the first time all series, St. Louis never trailed, and the Blues were able to secure their first ever Stanley Cup Finals win at home. This series will return to Boston for Game 5 on Thursday night.

The Blues put their blowout loss in Game 3 behind them and dominated in Game 4. St. Louis outshot Boston 38 to 23 on the night, and they outhit the Bruins too. Most importantly, they limited the penalties that had killed them in the previous three games, committing just two minors.

Boston is already short on defensemen, so the potential loss of Zdeno Chara for the rest of the Stanley Cup Finals is a big one. Chara was hit in the face by a Brayden Schenn shot last night, and he didn’t play for the vast majority of the last two periods. If he doesn’t play, Bruce Cassidy will have to juggle his lines.

The New Jersey Devils want to keep Taylor Hall in the fold, but the former No. 1 pick is taking a wait-and-see approach when it comes to his future. Hall is eligible to sign an extension on July 1, yet he seems unlikely to do so until seeing all the moves the Devils make in free agency and the NHL Draft.

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired forward Kevin Hayes from the Winnipeg Jets last night. Philadelphia dealt a fifth-round pick in the upcoming NHL Draft to nab Hayes, and the Flyers are hoping that the center can help spark a turnaround next season.
