Boston and San Jose Move Within One Win of Advancing and More

Boston and San Jose each went up 3-2 in their conference semifinals series on Saturday night, and the Bruins and Sharks are looking to close out on Monday. These teams were the two favorites to win the Stanley Cup after a wild first round that saw most of the top teams eliminated, and they are looking to ensure that there are no further upsets for the time being.

David Pastrnak scored twice for Boston in the Bruins’ Game 5 win over Columbus on Saturday night. Pastrnak had been criticized for having a pretty mediocre postseason, but if he plays like this and Boston’s first line dominates like it did, the Bruins will be tough to beat.

Tomas Hertl came up big for San Jose in Game 5. Hertl scored both Sharks goals in a 2-1 win over Colorado, and he broke out of his scoring slump too. Coming into last night’s game, Hertl had just one point so far this series.

Ken Holland will become the new general manager of the Edmonton Oilers according to a report from TSN on Sunday. Holland had previously been the GM of the Detroit Red Wings, but he was looking for an out after the Red Wings brought in Steve Yzerman.

The Dallas Stars are looking to make it to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2008 with a win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. Dallas is up 3-2, and the Stars would love to win on home ice in Game 6.

It didn’t take much for the Dallas Stars to acquire Ben Bishop, and numerous other teams are kicking themselves for missing out on his resurgence. After all, how many 6’7 goaltenders are there in the world?
