Browns News: Baker Mayfield Explodes At Reporter

Undeniably, Baker Mayfield is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s not enough that he has six touchdowns and 12 interceptions on the season and a 39.6 QBR. Luckily for all of us who write about guys who end up in posts like this one for all the wrong reasons, he’s still interviewing and tweeting like a juvenile.

Therefore, let’s get on with the show.

First, Mayfield answered a question angrily at Cleveland reporter Tony Grossi. While answering an inaudible question – likely about the inept Cleveland offense – remember that Grossi was just doing his job. Whether or not he meant a subtle jab at Mayfield’s play, we will never know. Still, if it was a subtle jab in any way; Mayfield has earned it.

Now take a look at what Mayfield said in the response to Grossi.

Here’s what he says in the heated moment:

“Stop saying ‘but’. I just told you the clock was running. You want to give them the ball back? No. You don’t play, so you don’t know. It’s just plain and simple.”

Then, Grossi asked something about if Mayfield was happy with a decision made.

“Was I happy with it? No. We didn’t score points. That’s the dumbest question you can ask.”

Suddenly, Mayfield is stressed out while doing simple things that come with the territory of being an NFL quarterback like giving an interview. All he has to do here is display some composure – even during a tough season – and display thick skin. Instead, he did the opposite.

Then Mayfield went to twitter to release two tweets that had many wondering what he was even talking about, had someone not seen this interview beforehand. Here are those tweets.

Finally, Mayfield has managed to keep the status-quo Cleveland Browns disaster right on schedule. Whether it was ripping Daniel Jones in GQ before the season, trading verbal jabs with Rex Ryan, or getting trolled by Nick Bosa on Monday Night Football in a blowout; Mayfield has delivered.

Of course, the cherry on the sundae is typically his on-field play every week. There are plenty of second year players in sports who struggle and go largely without notice. However, Mayfield is not one of those players; and there’s several good reasons for that.

If things remain unchanged, Mayfield should think about which television network he wants to work for in two years.
