On Wednesday, Pro Bowl nose tackle Vita Vea did not participate in the team’s first full training camp practice, standing on the sideline during team periods and observing work with his defensive-line teammates. Coach Todd Bowles said Vea tweaked his back during the team’s conditioning test and is “day to day,” and noted that Vea’s prior absence during mandatory minicamp had been driven largely by contract issues.
All-Pro left tackle Tristan Wirfs also tweaked his hamstring during the conditioning test and did not practice Wednesday, according to the report from camp. Both injuries were cited as reasons for limited participation on Day 1.
