CFL Betting: Week 6 Preview & Picks

CFL

Week 5 of the CFL season delivered with plenty of drama around the league. The Calgary Stampeders got back on track with a statement win, the defending Grey Cup champion Ottawa Redblacks salvaged a split after they were forced to play twice in five nights and things went from bad to worse in a hurry for Kent Austin and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. All of that drama set the stage for what should be another exciting slate of games this week. Here is your CFL rundown for Week 6 of the season.

Thursday July 27th, 2017 – 8:30 PM ET

Montreal Alouettes @ Winnipeg Blue Bombers

CFL Betting Odds: Winnipeg -3.5

While their were some positives to take from last week’s loss to Ottawa, the schedule will only get tougher for the Alouettes this week as they travel to Winnipeg. Darian Durant threw for 452 yards against the Redblacks but he might need to produce an even better performance to keep up with the Blue Bombers offense. Winnipeg managed to put up 42 points last week, but they still fell to the BC Lions after getting outscored 18-0 in the fourth quarter. The Blue Bombers should be motivated to bounce back at home in front of their fans this week. Winnipeg will win and cover at home.

Pick: Winnipeg -3.5

Friday July 28th, 2017 – 9:30 PM ET

BC Lions @ Edmonton Eskimos

CFL Betting Odds: Edmonton -1.5

The undefeated Eskimos kept on rolling with a comeback win over the lowly Tiger-Cats in Week 5. However, they did suffer a significant loss with the announcement that league-leading receiver Adarius Bowman will miss six weeks due to injury. Edmonton has the personnel to overcome the loss of Bowman but they will be in tough at home against the visiting Lions this week. No other team has allowed less than 109.

The Eskimos are going to have to rely on their defense even more so. To this point, it’s been airtight as they’ve allowed just 95 points this season.

Travis Lulay has torched opposing defenses through the air for back-to-back 400-yard performances while filling in for the injured Jonathon Jennings. Last week’s rally back from down 42-27 in the fourth quarter was extremely impressive. BC can’t afford to fall behind by double-digits on the road in Edmonton this week. The Lions should be able to keep this game close. However, we’ll give the slight edge to the undefeated Eskimos at home this week.

Pick: Edmonton -1.5

Saturday July 29th, 2017 – 6:30 PM ET

Toronto Argonauts @ Saskatchewan Roughriders

CFL Betting Odds: Saskatchewan -3

The Roughriders hit a wall with just 251 yards of total offense and 10 points in a 27-10 loss to Calgary in Week 5. Will they bounce back in Week 6 against the Argonauts? Saskatchewan had combined for 77 points in its previous two games but there are reasons for concern after they fell to 1-3 with last week’s loss. Meanwhile, Toronto is rolling after a 27-24 win over the Redblacks left them with the best record in the East division at 3-2. Ricky Ray has thrown for at least 325 yards in all five games this season and he should have no problem putting up big numbers against the Roughriders defense. The Argonauts should win this game outright, which means they will cover the spread as three-point underdogs.

Pick: Toronto +3

Saturday July 27th, 2017 – 9:30 PM ET

Hamilton Tiger-Cats @ Calgary Stampeders

CFL Betting Odds: Calgary -13

Just when it seemed as though the Tiger-Cats had hit rock bottom they are forced to travel across the country to take on Calgary. Hamilton was on its way to its first win with a 25-13 lead over the Eskimos last week before everything fell apart. Now Zach Collaros and company need to find a way to rebound on the road against arguably the best team in the CFL. Bo Levi Mitchell and company is capable of putting up massive offensive numbers at home and should have no problem doing exactly that against the Hamilton defense. Can Collaros help the Tiger-Cats keep this game close? The more likely scenario is that the Stampeders dominate this game in a lopsided win that could spell the end for Austin in Hamilton.

Pick: Calgary -13
