Champions League Fantasy: The Optimal Lineup For Tuesday’s Daily Leagues

The Champions League returns to DraftKings with a full slate of tournaments for Tuesday afternoon’s Round of 16 action. The tournaments that begin on Tuesday will be based on the four games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Those that miss out on the action or get off to a slow start will still have the opportunity to play in the tournament’s that start on Wednesday and feature just the two games scheduled for that day. At this point, we will keep our focus on Tuesday’s tournaments with four games to take a long look at when building our Champions League fantasy roster.

GK: Jan Oblak, Atletico Madrid

Salary: $3,900

Atletico Madrid is a heavy favorite at home in its second leg versus PSV and Oblak is just the fourth-most expensive option on the board. That makes him a bargain at $3.9K with the chance for him to produce the best fantasy score while costing less than Manuel Neuer, Joe Hart and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

D: Jetro Willems, PSV

Salary: $3,000

PSV will be in tough on the road against Atletico Madrid, but their best chance to pull off the upset will be if they can keep the Spanish side from scoring. That means the Dutch side will likely come out with a stronger defensive posture and while they will be in tough to keep Atletico off the board, the upside is high enough and the price tag is low enough to make Willems worth taking a chance on in Champions League fantasy.

D: Santiago Arias, PSV

Salary: $2,800

The same can be said for Arias at just $2.8K, which is a bargain for a defender that should play the full 90 minutes on the road against Atletico. PSV faces an uphill climb to pull off the upset, but if they can contain the Atletico attack then the tandem of Willem and Arias could very well end up being a major bargain in Champions League fantasy.

D: Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus

Salary: $2,900

Juventus is another team that will be in tough in its second leg, but they came back from two goals down to pull even heading back to Germany and that means a 1-0 win would be enough to push them through. Gigi Buffon has played 926 minutes without conceding a goal in Serie A so look for Juventus to get back to its stingy defensive play for the second leg and hold firm against the German side in a low scoring second leg.

M: Jesus Navas, Manchester City

Salary: $4,900

Manchester City took a commanding 3-1 lead in the opening leg in Kyiv and after stumbling in the Premier League their sole focus now is the Champions League. That should mean another strong performance in the second leg at home so we will use Navas as our lone entry from City in Tuesday’s Champions League fantasy tournaments.

M: Thiago Alcantara, Bayern Munich

Salary: $4,100

Bayern will have its hands full looking to avoid the upset at home, but at $4.1K it only makes sense to take a chance on a player like Alcantara. Bayern Munich should have a renewed focus after letting their 2-0 lead slip away at Juventus in the first leg so look for Alcantara to figure in to the mix with a number of crosses in to the box.

M: Yannick Carrasco, Atletico Madrid

Salary: $3,800

Carrasco didn’t play in the first leg against PSV, but he played in the following two La Liga games for Atletico Madrid and he should factor in to this game. Atletico will look to push the pace early on and Carrasco’s ability to drive the ball in to the box will be important.

F: Luis Suarez, Barcelona

Salary: $9,400

After saving so much available money by using strong value options at other positions, we have more than enough to spend big on two of Barcelona’s big three attacking trident. Suarez is available at almost $1K less than Lionel Messi and is just as dangerous so it makes sense to plug him in here as our top striker in Champions League fantasy.

F: Neymar, Barcelona

Salary: $9,200

The fact that Neymar is available for a similar price to Suarez makes him a strong bet to have in our lineup for Tuesday’s contests. Barcelona could really open things up at home against Arsenal in the second leg so it makes sense to have two of the club’s top options in our lineup.

FLEX: Arda Turan, Barcelona

Salary: $3,100

We don’t have much money left over after loading up with two of Barcelona’s top three strikers so it is all about finding deep sleeper value options that have the highest upside. Turan is one of those players that could have an impact as Barcelona looks to put away Arsenal at home.

FLEX: Alex Sandro, Juventus

Salary: $2,700

Like Chiellini, Sandro isn’t the best option on the board, but he is still a capable player available at a very reasonable price. There aren’t many options to choose from with the $3K that we have left over, but Sandro should play big minutes for Juventus and he is worth taking a chance on in this final spot in order to make sure we can spend big on other positions.
