Charlo vs Trout Odds – Saturday Showtime Boxing

Charlo vs Trout Odds

Charlo vs Trout Odds – This Saturday, May 21, Showtime Boxing is in Las Vegas. Three world title fights in the super welterweight division are on the table and getting attention at the sport books.

The IBF world title is on the line in the main event, as champion Jermall Charlo (23-0) faces the challenge of Austin Trout (30-2). Charlo is defending his IBF belt for the second time. We last saw him back in November when he scored an impressive fourth round TKO of Wilky Campfort. He won the belt in September when he defeated the aging Cornelius Bundrage and, at 25-years-old, Charlo wants to be the future of the 154-lb division. In Trout, he faces what is certainly his toughest competition to date. Trout is talented, as his defeat of Miguel Cotto back in December of 2012 testifies, but his career did not explode after that. He booked big fights, with Saul Alvarez and Erislandy Lara, but dropped both. Since the back-to-back losses, Trout has won four fights in a row to get back into the title picture.

Jermall’s twin brother Jermell (27-0) vies for the vacant WBC World title as he takes on John Jackson (20-2). The two brothers would like to put the entire 154-lb weight division on notice this Saturday with resounding wins. Despite having more fights than his brother, this will be Jermell’s first shot at a world title. In Jackson, he gets a fighter with a strong amateur background (he participated in the 2008 Olympics) and a pro career that has seen him face solid competition while on the road. The Charlo brothers envision locking down the 154-lb weight class together, similar to the stranglehold the Klitschko brothers had on the heavyweight division this past decade.

The third title fight sees Cuba’s Erislandy Lara (20-2-2) defending his WBA and IBO belts against Vanes Martisoryan (36-2-1). This is a rematch of a November of 2011 match-up that saw the fight end in a draw after 9 of the scheduled 12 rounds. Martirosyan was cut over the right eye by an accidental headbutt, and the judges were split (86-85,86-86,84-87). Since that draw, Martirosyan has gone 4-2 with losses to Jermell Charlo and Demetrius Andrade. We last saw Martirosyan back in September when he outpointed veteran Ishe Smith on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr vs Andre Berto. Lara still remains a bit of an enigma, as the hyper-talented Cuban has been saddled with inactivity and a “boring” label, but Landy considers himself one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet. Making the most out of a showcase spot on Showtime this weekend would go a long way towards shaking some of those negatives for Lara, while a win for Martirosyan would stop the slide he has been on.
