Arsenal suffered a defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday, with the match finishing 1-1 after regular and extra time and PSG prevailing 4-3 in the penalty shootout. Paris Saint-Germain became the second club to win consecutive Champions League titles, and Arsenal’s search for a first European Cup extended after final losses in 2006 and 2026.
Chelsea remain the only London club to have won the Champions League, having lifted the trophy in 2012 and 2021. The west London club used the moment immediately after the final to promote stadium tours at Stamford Bridge, featuring the UCL trophy at the center of the display, according to the club’s social media post that encouraged fans to visit what it described as London’s home of trophies.
The two clubs are long-standing rivals in the Premier League, with Chelsea based in southwest London and Arsenal in the north. Across more than 121 years, the sides have met on more than 200 occasions, including the 2019 Europa League final which Chelsea won. This season Arsenal recorded three wins and one draw in four meetings between the clubs across all competitions.
Champions League themes have long been used to needle Arsenal supporters, with Chelsea followers frequently singing taunts suggesting Arsenal will never be “Champions of Europe.” Arsenal did secure the Premier League title last week for the first time since 2004, but Saturday’s result left Chelsea holding a prominent continental distinction over their rivals.
It did not take long after the final whistle for Chelsea to highlight that difference, using its social channels to showcase the Champions League trophy as part of its stadium tour promotion.
